Using water shader on a custom mesh.

Hi,
How is it possible to use the water shader (pro) on a custom mesh?
I want to use it on a mesh that represents the water plane of a non rectangle pool.

Have a nice day.

do have the same question, when use the water on a plane imported, the uv seems a mess!

Yeah I was wondering about this too… As a work around for the time being putting the new water4 shader on a custom mesh and animating that… then toning the shader animation way back so that it is not to different than the mesh’s animation but gives that little bit of extra detail. Anyone else tried this yet?

what the hell in water4???

i kniw the water3 and i know basic and pro daylight and nighttime water but what is water4? And where to get it? :stuck_out_tongue:

Water4 was released with the 3.4 update… I believe it’s just a pro feature. That said I have not tried putting it on a custom mesh yet myself. As for putting the previous water3 on a custom mesh it is indeed possible. I created a custom doughnut shaped mesh to surround my tile set so the water looked more realistic on the horizon. I am not sure if water3 works anymore with the update… at the very least you may want to setup a water3 scene from scratch after updating vs. putting your code in place and having 3.4 mess it up. Also, when they put out 3.4 they forgot the day/night shaders so you might want to skip 3.4 and wait for 3.41 which they say will be out soon.

Now in regards to custom mesh you probably won’t be able to get the get height at functions for buoyancy to work right unless it is on a square mesh. Also, water4 is a regressive update from water3 so while it looks a little better it no longer support buoyancy or underwater effects. It’s really just for background eye candy.
