When going into DevOps for version control and checking out reviews for example, the website is not quite designed to use full space.
For example I have wide screen monitor, there is ton of unused space on sides, and due to this the changed files do not even have shown a full text, so I dont really see what exactly changed.
You cannot even resize the “columns” to see the texts.
I think we considered that at some point to use the full space but it was too big and we were losing readability.
Anyway, let me share your feedback with the dev team.
GitLab already does this, and its industry standard, so reconsidering this would go a long way (also considering 1 column is files and 2 others is code comparison, and code needs quite a lot of horizontal space to read)
Also GitLab has adjustable columns, so if there are some unreadable files, you can adjust it. This is also missing from the UI and would go a long way in improving the UX
Hello @carlosalba1985, this is a game changer!
Huge thanks for this quick improvement, this really hugely improves the workflow for code reviews, as now its as good as in gitlab.
Hey @Wrymnn , I work on the team that maintains Version Control and I just wanted to personally express my appreciation for taking the time out of your day to leave feedback, complete with screenshots!
You may or may not have also noticed we also have added a draggable resize behaviour to the file tree on the left side:
Please feel very welcome to continue sharing anything else that you think could be improved.
Hey @toddbunity,
Indeed I have noticed this, thats why I was really surprised and glad you implemented the entire request
As this truly makes this code review window much more usable, cleaner and feature rich even for complex code reviews
And yes I have another suggestion coming, but I guess will create new thread for this, so it doesnt mix.
(also I have submitted many new feedback on PlasticSCM app last week, but maybe that is a different team)
Hello @toddbunity, there appears to be bug we have discovered. If you drag the column to the most left, as to the left as possible, it gets stuck and you can no longer move it
Happens every time, happened even to one of our other devs on other machine.
Edit: for me its actually stuck even after refresh of entire page.
@toddbunity This seems to happen only when the column is at the most left, and you create new comment (does not even have to submit the comment, just clicking the + breaks it)
@Wrymnn Since there are a few additional cases we’ve found to consider, we’ve rolled back the drag resize feature temporarily until we get everything ironed out. Will keep you posted!
The drag feature is back. Let us know if you experience any other issues and thanks again for your feedback & patience!
