v4 Pro User, installed 3.5 on same PC/OS, but it's in "Basic" Mode

Figured out the problem.

Unity allows your v4 Pro license on 2 different computers, just not both on the same computer, which prohibits having Pro versions of both 3.x and 4.x installed (without 2 separate licenses).

That’s… really annoying.

I can work around it by juggling the license back and forth depending on need, but it would be nice if previous Unity versions would recognize higher level licenses and just enable Pro features by default.

Did you file a bug report?

I did.

Same here.

Unity 4 : Unity Pro + Andorid Pro
Unity 3.5 Unity basic

The wired thing is that if i try to reactivate the / change the license of the Unity 3.5 version the program freezes on directly after clicking on the confirm button.

I’ve not had to revert back to v4 yet, but that doesn’t sound fun if that’s what I have to look forward to. You know, I’m actually thinking - until Unity fixes this - they should issue temporary 3.x Pro licenses to 4.x Pro users, until the program itself is able to recognize licenses and make this change automatically.

May email Unity about this today. Will reply with any updates.

The problem is that we have projects that probably never will get upgraded to unity 4 because the project is done but some new functions and bug fixes are needed. Nevers seen such a problem on a mac , only windows fu… around.

Small update. Well, nothing yet really, but got a reply this morning that stated:

Which… threw me off a bit, from a common sense standpoint.

Installing a newer version of Unity into an existing Unity directory upgrades that installation.

Installing an old version of Unity into a new installation… well, I don’t know, as I would never do that. It’s like deleting C:\Windows in my mind.

But alas… I cleared this up in my reply to Unity Support this morning to indicate I use:

D:\Unity35 (3.5)
D:\Unity42 (4.2)

…so hopefully we can actually start addressing the issue in their next reply.

Last update:

Turns out the “trick” to getting both Unity 3.x Pro and Unity 4.x Pro working on the same computer (assuming you have a 4.x Pro license) is to have 3.x Pro activated first, then “re-activate” 4.x Pro afterwards using the same serial. Doing the reverse order will cause 3.x not to recognize/use the 4.x Pro license.

Hope that helps!
