I’m not sure how easy a fix it is but bitdepth is app specific on the phone, it seems, and Unity is stuck at 16bit on the phone, rather than the 24bit one might expect
The result is a mess, its really nasty, in my eyes anyways, certainly not what would be expected of a leading model
So in Unity’s “Texture Importer” you have the textures set to “Lightmap/16 bits”? And are you seeing a visual difference in the Unity Editor vs on the Android device?
Nope, texture type is lightmap 24bit rbg in the import settings, inside the editor they are fine at 24 bit and pretty much how they look on the phone in 16 bit, lots of ugly banding, changing the filter to point makes the 16bit setting ‘smoother’ at the cost of it obviously being very pixellated and resolution dependent - i have to set the resolution to 1024x1024 for it to look fine enough which is just impractical uncompressed when a 24 bit image looks far better at a quarter of the resolution
And I just checked again and I was wrong, point filter doesnt help at all in this case, the lightmaps continue to have strong banding/dull muddy colours
I hope there is a fix for this or i’m doing something wrong or it may become a liability for unity games on what is a very popular and powerful handset
Especially considering I bought the phone for Unity development… disappointing
For anyone else with this issue, aftermarket ROM replacement Cyanogenmod 7 apparently somewhat fixes the issue if you’re prepared to void your phone warranty for the fix
Then that means the next OS release will fix it likely as its the potentially just an outdated driver + fact that android can’t just patch drivers on the fly. Or Samsung custom modified the driver and cyanogen uses the stock one (wouldn’t be the first time that gave better results …)
I am using s2 currently and using it for almost 2mnths i feel its a best smart phone phone till now. Well the phone has pretty amazed me with its amazing touch screen capability and i have never seen such a wonderful touch response from previously bought htc phones:sunglasses:. All the games are pretty getting installed and runs flawlessly and successfully without any hitch or lag (specially hats off to its enormous dual core processor ) and there’s no sort of color tint issues as few unfortunate ppl have to complain abt. However what makes me concern abt my galaxy s2 is the camera surface is catching up heat which makes me doubt my phone. Is it me who’s facing this problem due to my usuage or hardware defect or really it’s dual core cortex processor which consumes much power to process which is quite normal? Any one other than me facing same probs?
However the phone as compared to the new iphone 4g, galaxy s2 is lot better and the most important thing that overwhelmed me is its cost, as compared to iphone 4, it is pretty inexpensive :y. Iphone 4 has 3.5 inch display while has 4.2 inch. However screen resolution matters where samsung galaxy s2 lags but there’s no large difference. Important to me is sg2 offers both high resolution camera’s 8MP rear and 2MP front while that lame iphone 4 with high cost offers only 5MP rear and cheap front camera.
Right, is this useful and can I do this myself? Does it apply to OGL ES1.1 and if I cant do it, are you able to provide a fix sometime soonish? Cheers!
