Virtual Tour for Architechtural Vizualization

Hey everybody. I wasnt sure if this post belonged in the showcase section or here.

The project isnt 100 ready but its advanced enough to be able to show it and possibly get some feedback from u guys.

I created this from scratch. 3d models, textures, programming, etc.
I sort of tought(?) myself how to program during this project, i started with very basic knowledge and now consider i am fully capable of understanding and programming all sorts of fun soon to come new projects.

I have been working doing architechtural renderings for a long time and that inspired this project. Its a new, fun way to present a house or project. I have tons of ideas and functionalities i havent added. But i plan to make a version 2 of this project some time in the future.

For now i just want to showcase it, debuug it if necessary, and see if i can start making a linving using unity and not just renders. Make sure to view it un fullscreen mode and thanks for your time.

The file is 40megas so be patient, there is a loading bar on the bottom

All I got was the menu.

Oh, and it’s “taught” btw.

Edit:
Gotit!

could you play it?? i added a progressbar but im thinking of adding the percentage too… people are so impatient.i am too…
so… were you able to walk around?

Yeah, it was great, even opening doors! Great environment too, did you use any asset for that or was it all custom work you did?

any screenshots?

some screen shots

I already have a newer version of this. Some issues fixed, models, textures, scripts, terrain and other stuff.
Everything you see is done by me except for the trees and bushes that i took from the standard assets.

Some more info
I had a hard time deciding on how to light the interior. I work doing 3d renders, so im pretty familiarized with lighting inside of 3dmax. I had to choose between baking my illumination inside 3dmax or doing it with beast. I ended up using beast since i wanted to focus more on the “gameplay” and ambience. Besides it would have made the webplayer a lot bigger(size) and i was aiming for not so long loading times.

SimtropBuggi, thanks for the comments. I really aprecciate any feedback that you have. I also dont mind answering questions if you got any.

I came up with the door functionality after several failed attempts. It worked but i didnt like it. Then i played Hitman absolution and it gave me the idea on how to convey the fact that you can open the door. Here is a part of the script i used for that:

Thank you guys for everything and please keep the feedback coming

Nice Demo.

i like the idea of several tours and a free walk around mode, it works well.

i also like the reflections on the piano, they add some interest.

you have already commented on your progress bar, and i agree you need to make it more obvious as to when the loading will finish. like you said displaying percentage, or even a background to the bar, just so we can see when it ends.

Is the final target for this, the web player, if so it can be good practice to keep the build size below about 20mb, to allow for quicker loading times.

Love it! Maybe tune up the initial configuration while it loads…add some graphics, images, to better explain what is about, an to have a quicker and easy reference for what i´m going to do…
still, when it loads, i love how simple to navigate it is! Looks like you are about to finish it, some missing textures whitin the house, or objects like chairs clipping through walls…but helluva work! Congrats! …i can only wish to acomplish this!

Gyp: the final targets will be standalone and webplayer. Im not worrying about the size for the standalone version. The webplayer on the other hand will need to be optimized. Im planning on experimenting with substance materials. I read that those can drastically reduce the file size. I´ll have to see. Im not aiming for 20mb because there is just too much data, soundclips, 3dmodels, etc. I could try and see if i can stream the scene. For example first load the terrain and maybe letting the player walk somewhere where they cant see the house. And when the house is loaded i load it in. just an idea.

Chenko: Thanks for your comments and feedback. I know i have to improve the loading scene. Its just so overwhelming to have to be on top of everything. I wish i had a graphic designer to help me with the layout of the loading screen.
The bathrooms are missing the textures and ill have to see about those clipping chairs.

Keep the feedback coming please
