Got an email from someone called Vethoix (claimed to be a member of the forums here), wanting some help with his portfolio. Turns out the page is infected with a virus, either as a deliberate attack or whoever that page belongs to doesn’t know.
Just writing this as a public warning to anyone that gets the mail not to click the link.
Could be spam so it’s suggested that none members aren’t able to view member lists here to make ‘fake’ messages. Cheers.
lol, never click on any links someone sends you on e-mail.
All the time it’s either advertisement or some hack
I have like thousands of emails in my inbox, and I ignore all of them apart from the ones that are sent from e.g. forum or website where I register or something.
I got one some time back from a user called Josh Stewart
wanting me to check out his portfolio.
I really don’t worry too much about going to sites since my virus program warns me about malicious stuff going on there.
This site had a java script thing going on but couldn’t find the proper path to run the application and that was it.
Later on I wrote him back giving him the benefit of the doubt but never heard back.
This does all sound suspicious and maybe I’m too trusting…
Yep that’s the chap in this latest email (and same content as a well)… the nick is associated with a banned member here. Draw your own conclusions from that one
I’m not too bothered about these sorts of things either but it’s always a good idea to let members know whenever shenanigans are afoot
Basically the guy/gal has managed to siphon off the email addresses from everyone commenting on the forums. So the security issue is here with the forum admins.
Noticed that the default value for a profile is to make emails public - which is bad. My session timed out whilst I was modifying my profile, so my changes were never committed.
For security the admins should now switch every e-mail showing off and let folks change that capability later if they wish.
