Visable skinned meshes in stats window

In Unity 1.7 The stats window states I have 54 Visible Skinned Meshes. I looked for them and even turned off all of my models and the number does not change. How can I reduce this?

How many skinned meshes do you believe there should be in the game? (If you’ve not intentionally used any at all, I would guess this stat looks a bit worrying :wink: ). Is there any more detail you can give about what the game should be doing?

I created an empty scene and the stats window stated I had 27 skinned meshes! I then brought up the main menu of my game that is nothing more then 2d textures and it stated i had 54 skinned meshes. I then imported the game into unity 3 and it stated I had 7 skinned meshes. Not sure what that is all about, but it is strange.
