I just recently stumbled across a really cool idea geared toward visual scripting because I heard a rumor about the potential of unity developing one and wanted to share how another group is doing it in their alpha stage and I really liked it (its a stretch, that unity might consider doing something like this but it never hurts to dream). They use gameplay props to create all of the magic in creating a game (seekers, rotators and many others which I thought was really cool) its amazing how much can be done with these simple props (thumbnail below).

The problem with the visual scripting platforms available today is that they are not really visual (playmaker did a great job) but they just don’t hit the mark, the one above is a new way of thinking and developing, its called Crey and a much better way to think (reusable elements which made unity).
