Volume reconstruction from DICOM images

Hello all,

I am relatively new to Unity and am trying to improve my code for volume reconstruction of DICOM images. I could use your help and expertise is determining a good algorithm for optimizing the number of triangles generated.

I intend to view the reconstructed output on the Hololens. I was able to script the 3D reconstruction process in C# from 2D images in DICOM format using Marching cubes algorithm. However, the number of triangles generated are way too high to import the model into the Hololens. There is a lot of lag, and my rendering is now usable at the stage. Is there an algorithm that you would suggest for optimizing the number of triangles? I tried looking for them online but I was only losing time with some of them barely resulting in a change.

I’m interested in doing the same thing actually with my hololens.

Instead of marching cubes, I was thinking about doing some sort of volumetric rendering.

I noticed that the asset states it is not suitable for the Hololens. Have you been successful is using ray casting for your project? The number of triangles rendered using my marching cubes algorithm is just way too high.
