[VR Multiplayer FPS] Looking for 3D artist

Hello everyone !

My name is Pierre, 29 years old and a professional developer for a little over 10 years now. This job is also a passion that I have had since I was 15, with a more particular emphasis on the development of video games :slight_smile:

My professional experience started on a World of Warcraft (C ++) server project for 3 years before falling to the web side of the force, first going into the devops world (Fullstack & architecture) before joining an entrepreneurial adventure by becoming CTO, now with a team of around twenty people.

In parallel with these professional experiences, I have not given up on the world of video games, training for several years on Unity with more or less successful side-projects ^^’

The project

Jetpack Shooter (temporary name to be discussed: D) is a VR project that was born out of my frustration at not being able to try Iron Man VR, the latter only being released on PSVR and being the owner of an Oculus Quest myself.

I therefore looked for a game providing the same sensations mixing movement and shooting, but I did not find anything conclusive, which prompted me to create the game I wanted to play myself, having this project in my head for a few years now.

Jetpack Shooter will therefore be a multiplayer PVP FPS whose movements are made by jetpack integrated in the character’s hands, allowing great maneuverability in very vertical maps to face other players!
In addition to this maneuverability, this mode of movement avoids a very large part of the nausea effect induced by movement in most of the other FPS currently available in VR and to which I myself am quite sensitive.

The game has been in development for 3 months, the main systems are coded (VR, jetpack movement, main fire) and multiplayer is already available!

Multiplayer is a critical part and although it is already functional it will take a long time to refine and optimize.

As you can see, being myself a developer and not a graphic designer, the game is currently using free assets from the Unity store.
The main systems are therefore already well advanced, but all the “artistic direction” part is missing to really take the next step.

Artistic Direction

A video game attracts of course by its gameplay, but also very much by its artistic direction. Not having artistic fiber myself, the graphic designer who will join me will therefore have the free field to apply his vision to the project :slight_smile:

With a “jetpack” type gameplay, the game would probably more towards a futuristic aspect (Sci-Fi? Space? Steampunk? Robots or Humans?), But of course nothing is fixed yet and I will be delighted to have your feedback on this point.

Objectives

The world of VR development is currently in its very early stade, and the platform’s biggest successes have come from new and independent studios (Beat Saber, Super Hot, …). It is therefore the ideal moment to embark on the creation of a video game with the realistic ambition of being part of the known games of this medium.
Based on this observation, the objective would be to set up a motivated multidisciplinary team ready to commit in the long term, a video game requiring a lot of time before actually reaching the stores.

Our first step would be to design a playable prototype with all the basic functions and to offer it for free on the internet as well as on alternative stores such as SideQuest to build an embryonic community that can test the game and give us initial feedback.

The second step would then be to use these feedbacks to refine the game and offer it on Steam as well as on the Oculus store.

Recruitment

My skills are mainly project management and development, to move forward in this ambitious project I am looking for therefore any type of profile, including:

  • Graphic designer / 3D Modeler: This role is for me an absolute priority since it will be at the heart of the realization of the project. I am aware of the wide range of professions that are found under this recruitment, but do not hesitate to contact me if you think this position speaks to you :slight_smile:
  • Level designer: Creation of some maps with established gameplay (deathmatch, TD, CTF, etc.)
  • Sound designer: For the musical atmosphere and / or the different sound effects of the game
  • (Optional) Community manager: To start the creation of a small community around the project
  • (Optional) Other Unity developers with software experience
