I am waiting for an Oculus Rift HMD hardware to arrive in post, but in the meantime, I am continuing the work on our Unity application, so I am just wondering: Is it really as simple as ticking the VR supported checkbox in the Player settings, and then plugging in the HMD? So, I can develop whatever I want in Unity and as soon as the headset arrives, just connect it and tick that box and everything works?
Yes, but, take into account VR works a little different, heres some basics:
- Make sure your models are to the correct scale to real life.
- Your camera should be where you want the players head to be, you cannot move the camera but can make it a child to a gameobject then move the gameobject.
- Fast movements can make you feel a bit dizzy just be careful.
- Screen space UI doesn’t render, for VR it’s recommended to use world space.
It’s a bit of a different way of thinking, you’ll see what I mean when it arrives.
