VRAM amount suspiciously low (20419)

My Chrome and Firefox keep on assigning the unity3d player only 1~4MB of VRAM. Which in turn generates the following message: D3D: VRAM amount suspiciously low (less than 32MB for PS2.0 card)

I don't think it's my application's problem because the problem persists even in the Unity3d site samples.

Has any one found a solution for this?

I have a similar problem. I have a lenovo Y570: http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/catalog.workflow:item.detail?GroupID=243&Code=08622UU&category-id=F41BC8E1656C5F85171FBDB172571912 this laptop should have 1G of Vram instead of 64Mb, but the stats window insists, plus my framerate drops if 64Mb is exceeded. I was talking to a friend, who said there is definitely something wrong. (I've played Battlefield 3 on this computer.) The card is a NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M 1GB. Is it because I have a setting enabled that I shouldn't?

@Joon: please submit a bug report from the Unity Editor (Help > Report a Bug), that way we will get the necessary info about your hardware and will try to reproduce. Thanks!

@ATR: it doesn't seem we have that hardware at hand. Hopefully we will be able to get enough info from @Joon to fix it for all cards. If not, we'll get that laptop as well.

Figured it out! (at least for myself).

What I did: Go to whatever graphics card control system you have (for me it’s the NVIDIA control panel). After that you have to go to the Program Settings tab, click Add, and find Unity.exe by sifting through your C drive and allocate it extra ram by setting it to high-performance (you might have to do this for the Unity Plugin as well, I have no idea). After you are finished it should be on a dropdown list.

The details may vary, but the core issue seems to be that NVIDIA/other cannot recognize that Unity sometimes needs a lot of GPU. Allocate the right program the right amount of GPU in your graphics control panel and you will be fine.

Point being consumers like me are stupid.

[edit:] there might be wacky visual artifacts, if that is the case turn on Vertical Sync and Triple Buffering

[edit2:] there still seems to be hyper-jagged edges, I don’t know what option solves that yet (it’s not anti-aliasing).

That's great for the developer... but we can't expect our individual users to do this....

I figured it out too. It seems installing logmein causes the problem. Try installing it from http://logmein.com
