To start off, I’m completely new to this program and have spent several days troubleshooting to figure out the very basics. I’m not sure it was enough because I feel I’m in way over my head.
I’ll try to keep it simple; my goal is of course to export back as VRM since every tutorial I have searched has required Unity. My first step was downloading VRoid and getting to know that program. Check. I have several decent models that I’m happy with but I wanted to do more, so I found out people use Blender to add clothes and Unity to add accessories and ultimately end up with a VRM at the end of that journey. I have followed everything step by step, and have made sure I downloaded every package required.
I used Unity 2019.4.22 first, and what looks like an older version of UniVRM. It was fine until I imported the model and it looked like this. I also was following from the first video I found to download a VRCSDK package, I’m assuming it was to allow the model to be used for VRchat which I’m not really all that interested in but I was willing to try. I imported my FBX version that I had edited in Blender and filled in all the textures. I managed to get everything looking exactly how I wanted it, except whatever was going on with those particular face assets. The materials weren’t transparent despite the inspector saying they were, and I tried to see if I could create new materials with the transparency but I have no clue what I’m doing.
And I ended up with a ton of error messages. The video I was watching obviously didn’t have this problem and I was doing everything they were doing. So I watched an even more recent video, all in 2021, and it suggested I use Unity 2019.4.13 and the latest version of UniVRM 0.68. So I import the package as normal, then try to import the model and I get several error messages. I opened Unity exactly like they did in the video, I imported the package, then attempted to import the model, nothing else.
I think what I need is someone who is used to doing this to explain to me exactly what versions I need to be using, if there are any settings I need to be adjusting at any point, and to tell me basically what it is I’m doing wrong. If anyone could please explain to me in layman terms or point me in the right direction I’d be very grateful, I’m really trying to figure this stuff out, and I’m willing to learn what I need to accomplish because not being able to finish this project is driving me crazy. If there’s any other information that is needed to help with this, please let me know. Thank you for any assistance on this matter!!
