Vue Infinite looks very impressive. I tried the demo version, but it won’t allow exporting of models. So I haven’t been able to actually import anything into Unity.
Has anyone else done this? For instance, create tree in Vue and export/import it into Unity (as a .3ds maybe?)
I do, but I’m no expert. I received it with my upgrade to LW 9 last year, but I only fired it up in order to create terrains for Unity. You can’t export environments, unfortunately, so a lot of the beauty is lost in translation. But it works very well.
Surprisingly, Vue’s trees are not very realistic when exported. I’ve had to look at alternatives like XFrog (very pricey and complex!). If you’ve got access to a PC, Tree Magick from The Game Creators is much easier and has pretty nice output for a very low price.
I thought it was just Vue Esprit that hase the terrian-only export limitation? I thought Vue Infinite could export everything? Are you using Esprit or Inifinte?
Thanks for the Tree Magick suggestion, I’ll check it out!
I’m using Vue 5 Infinite. Environments are a great feature that auto populate your terrain with trees, rocks, shrubs, you name it. These will not export as they can easily increase your poly counts into the billions! You are able to export individual elements, however. You also can’t export the infinite water or ground plains.
EcoSystems are one of the main attractions of Vue, but they can only exist in Vue (and some select packages using e-on’s XStream). Since it’s mainly used for creating photorealistic landscapes, it’s not so hot at low-poly anything (especially trees, which range from around 10,000 to 20,000 polygons). The landform meshes can be exported, along with the very realistic ground materials, but it will be one non-tiled texture, so you might miss out on some detail if you want to keep your txtrs under 1024x.
I’ve had some good results tiling a high frequency texture under the Vue texture for more resolution using Sync1b’s LayerShader at the wiki.
