Waddlefield 1.4 iPhone, Facebook

Waddlefield 1.4 (Released Feb. 4, 2010)

About
Waddlefield is a tactical strategy game for the iPhone/iTouch, episodically developed and released. Nine adorable playable farm animals, seven devious enemies, a story mode and an endless arcade mode are contained in the November release.

Create a team of cows, bunnies and sheep, all with their own unique abilities and statistics, to chase the foxes and hedgepigs off the Waddlefield. Chase down the devious llama, Blue Tail, and try to get the stolen pie back to the Waddlefarm!

Design, programming and art by me. Was definitely a learning experience for me, having not done pixel sprites before. I really enjoyed developing this title, and look forward to future updates where I expand the story.

The game has been submitted, and I’m hoping it’ll be in the app store by mid-November

This looks really fun! I love the graphics - very cute and professional looking - nice work!

The narrative is really neat, too. I like that you have a whole little universe going on there.

Good luck and well done!
Jeff.

Waddlefield is done. The next few hours will be combing through the forum, looking at suggestions, advice, and gotchas for the submission process. After the submission, later today, the priority is going to be some YouTube/Vimeo videos.

Thanks to everyone who encouraged and supported me during the development, hopefully it is warmly received when it is in the app store.

A little YouTube video was put together for Waddlefield:

Enjoy

Waddlefield just was approved! It should be available within the next 24 hours!! I’ll post a link when available! More exclamation points!!

Now available in the app store.

Bunnies!!! My friend says it looks like a DS game 'coz of the pixel art.

It seems like an interesting concept though a tactical games using farm animals, ehehe.

By the way, thank you for that tutorial you made for Unity-Facebook. Can you put your game on FB as well? Even just a short version, 'coz I don’t have an iPhone :frowning: and that game really looks adorable

Thanks!

I am working on a Facebook ‘prelude’ version, as a demo. I am also planning on porting this over to Windows/Mac in the next couple months, so anyone who doesn’t have an iPhone will be able to partake in the adventure as well.

I got a review on TouchArcade:

Yay.

Just wanted to say Congrats, the game is awesome.

Guys, how did you made a 2D in iPhone? Using Planes and raycasts, GUI2D or another way? I’m just curious because I’m going to make other type of 2D game for the iPhone and don’t know the best solution for that.

Thanks in advance,
Peter.

Waddlefield is actually made with GUIManager which is a GUI enhanced version of SpriteManager. It is essentially a game made completely with GUI functionality. Buttons and textures.

Here are some promo codes for Waddlefield. I’d appreciate a review and any word-of-mouth, etc promotion. Enjoy!

Waddlefield was selected as one of November’s Hidden Gems on TouchArcade:

Also, not all the above promo codes have been used, so if you’re interested, feel free to use one.

Here is some up from the coming update, Chapter 2.

The introduction of two different types of terrain, swamp (above) and caverns will be a change of scenery, expanding the Waddlefield world.

Some new minions as well. Snakes and frogs inhabit the swamp, while the caverns are filled with bats and snakes.

The crab is a visitor from Chapter 3.

They look great. I especially like the new minions. Who did the artwork for them?

Thanks!

I did all the artwork myself. Slowly getting more and more experience.

I’ve touched up some of the UI/Menu art from Chapter 1, and I expect that by Chapter 3 I’ll update the character art for the original heroes and original minions.

I absolutely love the artwork and think you did a really great job.
