If I want to use Unity I have to buy a Mac (I am a PC user) and I was thinking of waiting for Leopard OS because it is said it will be released very soon and will come with many improvements…??
What do you think?
Well, Leopard is due out from Apple in October. So it’s a personal decision if you want to wait that long I suppose. It’s true that if you wait any new Mac you buy will come preloaded with Leopard after the launch date, but the price is $129 if you buy a new Mac now with Tiger (10.4) preinstalled and then update later.
Whatever you do, do not buy an iMac or new Mac this week. Wait until Apple’s announcement of new hardware next Tuesday and see what they have. My money is on a new, slimmer, brushed metal iMac with Santa Rosa chipset and nVidia 8000-series graphics card.
At the very least.
Beeing a lion myself i would wait for the lion release and… :O)
Well, if you don’t need it now, don’t want to spend the extra money on the OS when it’s released and want to spare the time of saving your data and installing Leopard on your own, i would wait. If these are no problems to you then go for it before and if you’re interested in an iMac wait as DaveyJJ said. Hmm in both ways: waiting! :O)
Planning to get one of those new iMacs myself. With any luck, they’ll give us all a Leopard coupon along with it.
However, I also plan to sell the iMac as soon as regular MacBooks have decent graphics cards. Hopefully that will be in October or November. I got a refurbished MacBook Pro when they still had great deals on them, but those don’t exist anymore, and I can’t pay the full price right now.
Wait wait WAIT!!! Till August 7th when Apple unleashes their new iMac line up, as Davey JJ pointed out.
I too am a PC user, waiting for the new iMacs to come out before I buy one… So soon now I can taste it.
Sad really. . . . I own a Unity License. . . . and no Mac hahaha
But yea I am betting it will be the slim metal enclosure, with at least a Nvidia 8600 graphics card in there, steer clear of those nasty Ati cards with the Mac Book style keyboard… (not sure if I like those just yet)
I just hope they are released, on or shortly after the 7th, because my development is stalled until they are released.
Take care.
My mail, ( as is a lot of others ) is the new iMacs will be here next week or soooon after … so wait for then to buy a Mac, so you keep your options open. You will get a free ticket to Leopard with your Mac then ( they’ve done this in the past ) but be warned … some Apps need patches or fixes after a new mac OS is released, so maybe starting out pre-Leopard is a good thing.
Good luck,
JW
