It’s been sitting on this for about a week. WTF? The manual activation doesn’t really give you ANY instruction, and most of the people who’ve had this issue on here will either say “I did this” but not explain exactly what they did or they’ll say “oh it works now.”
I’ve tried shutting off the firewall, and the antivirus software, using a proxy tunnel program (which I’m not sure exactly how to use). Reinstalling, rebooting, shutting of the dnscache.
No you can’t skip the activation.
The manual activation will generate you a file you need to mail to the unity support.
for more see the support FAQ thread pinned at the top of this board here
I’ve had the same problem. Probably some firewall/proxy settings in the network which didn’t allow for communication with the licensing server.
Just select manual activation. In the next step, select “Save license file” or whatever it reads. Then, send the *.ilr file to support@unity3d.com. If you downloaded the free unity version, specify this in the e-Mail. Otherwise, you will have to provide your serial number.
Then, a nice guy from Unity support will send you an e-Mail with the license file. In the activation wizard, select “Read License”, select the file and you’re good to go.
Ok, why did I write all this even though it is in the FAQ? Well, when I read the FAQ, I was under the impression that the process of manual activation through e-Mail was automated. So I just sent an empty e-Mail with the License file. However, I was then asked to provide my serial number in the case I was using an older version or specify if I was using the free version, in which case there is no serial number to provide.
Yeah the manual activation worked for me, I just didn’t know how exactly to do it (it would make sense to have tell you when you click manual activation, but what do I know?) And I did skim over the Unity support FAQ before the dreamora let me know. The only reason I knew that I needed to provide more information in the e-mail was because I came across it in another thread. Basically appearantly when they get the liscence files, they don’t just wish up an activation, they run it through the system themselves.
I’m just really glad it’s FINALLY up and running now, thanks alot guys!
