Want to Share Positive Experiences I've Had With Two Vendors

I’ve had two really good experiences with some vendors that serve the Unity community recently and feel compelled to share them. I hope this is the appropriate forum for this.

First, UnityVS: http://unityvs.com/. The recent problems with Monodevelop finally drove me to cough up the dough and move to Visual Studio. In researching VS/Unity workflow integration I saw several positive comments about UnityVS (http://forum.unity3d.com/threads/148621-Visual-Studio-debugging-for-Unity-is-finally-here! et al), enough to convince me to buy it too. I’m glad I moved up to VS, and glad I included UnityVS.

But the positive workflow improvements I’ve had with VS/UnityVS aren’t why I’m writing this. I had a week vacation scheduled to start the day after I got VS/UnityVS and in my rush to reach the milestones I wanted to hit before going on vacation (as well as pack and all that) I forgot to install any of my new goodies on my laptop. After a couple of days of vacation I was ready to set up my laptop to experiment with some ideas I’d had and to my dismay I realized my UnityVS license info was in an email on my desktop back home. So I sent an email to the UnityVS folks. This was a Sunday morning. Within 20 minutes they had responded and hooked me up. On a Sunday morning. I don’t know where they are located geographically but Sunday is generally Sunday no matter where you are, and I certainly didn’t expect to hear from them until Monday at the earliest. It was awesome to get such a quick response and be able to muck around with the stuff I’d been thinking about while it was fresh in my head. You’ll see the UnityVS folks actively addressing comments and concerns on the Unity 3D forums as well.

Second, Dexsoft Games: http://www.dexsoft-games.com/, on the Asset Store: https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/#/publisher/15. I’ve been using Dexsoft assets for a few years now because they have a nice balance of quality and price. When I got back from vacation a couple of days ago I saw an email in my inbox about an awesome sale they were having. I’ve been buying from them since before there was an Asset Store so by force of habit I made my purchase (several actually) yesterday like I usually do from their website. There was a SNAFU with the company that handles their payments though and I only got receipt emails, not download info. I waited a bit and sent a support email. I’m in the US, Dexsoft is in the EU so it was well into the evening for them when I sent the email but in under 2 hours I had a reply and after forwarding my receipts was told I’d get my download info the next morning (this morning). I started my day at 8:00 AM, and sure enough there was all my download info in my inbox plus some complimentary assets for my trouble!

It’s so refreshing to get treated well as a customer. In so many other areas where I deal with vendors it seems like I have to fight tooth and nail just to get half of what I pay for. It has been a nice change of pace to be treated so courteously and with such promptness by these two fine companies. I hope you’ll keep these two in mind for your needs. Thanks UnityVS and Dexsoft Games!

I confirm your experience: I have experience with both companies (UnityVS / SyntaxTree are based in Paris/France IIRC, so just around my “corner”) and they were both great with customer support. I met the SyntaxTree guys on the GDC and had a nice little talk with them about what will come with UnityVS in the future. Great guys.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. People are often quick to complain about bad service, and often slow or not inclined to mention good service.

Definitely.

+1 for DexSoft.

Some time ago I asked about a certain person on this forum owning DexSoft license, as he attempted to sell us his DexSoft license.

On Saturday I asked the vendor if that person was a licensed customer and if such licenses were transferrable, DexSoft replied on within hours that person was not licensed and the license is not transferrable.

Have you hired DexSoft to develop custom assets? At my day job, we’re currently seeking a company that can develop 2D and 3D assets on an ad-hoc, ongoing basis. There website has some high-quality models, and I’m also hoping they: are easy to work with; ‘get-it’ when I describe what we’re looking for; and are reasonably priced; are flexible; and are reliable/trustworthy.

Gigi.

PS - We’re also hiring a full-time Technical Artist; hopefully in Norfolk, VA, USA area, though remote is possible if a US citizen.

Dexsoft has done lots of models for me in the past, in particular Frank Geppert from Dexsoft. It was a pleasure to work with them. So yes, just tell them what you need and they’ll make you an offer.

Nice to hear the good feedback on the vendors. I always feel more confident doing business with a vendor who treats their customers well enough to get unsolicited endorsements. I’ve been mulling over going to UnityVS, maybe it’s time to make the transition.
