What is Warfare 2525?

Warfare 2525 is a Real-Time Strategy game set 500 years in the future, when the Earth is a nuclear wasteland and the only surviving humans live on Mars. It is a story of a people who once built great monuments and achieved great sciences, now reduced to nothing more than a hope for one more day of survival. Their whole civilization was taken from them due to a few people’s greed. Their home, once a planet where food could be grown nearly anywhere, is now a freezing desert where people can’t even breath the air around them. Warfare 2525 is a story of loss.

That is not all, though. Earth as we know it today survives only in children’s stories stemming from the book “There’s a Wocket in my Pocket” by Dr. Seuss. Humanity, once so proud of its science and technology, doesn’t even realize what has been taken from it. On top of all that, Mars is under assault by an alien species known as the Katur. The Katur homeworld, devoid of resources after poor management by its dominant species, was abandoned many hundreds of years ago when the Katur set off to find a new place to live. The Katur stumbled upon Mars, much as Europe stumbled upon America, and now want to claim the Red Planet as their own. The humans won’t go down without a fight, not when they spend every day fighting just to get enough oxygen to breathe.

More about the backstory can be found at the Warfare 2525 Main Page.

How do you plan to show all this in an RTS game?

Art. I plan to use the art assets in this game to give the impression of a lonely people who can’t even get enough air to breathe primarily through the use of the art in this game. How exactly to do this is something I’m not entirely clear on. I therefore would like to ask for advice on how exactly to arouse those specific emotions and tell that story of forlorn loss.

I also have asked a good friend of mine to compose the soundtrack for this game. That soundtrack will also help in telling the story of a people who are beaten but have yet to realize it. The main idea of that soundtrack is that there is one base audio loop which is always playing with other loops being faded in based on specific events, such as the start of a battle or the loss of an important building. Although I have yet to hear these audio tracks, I have heard a great deal of his other work and can attest to the quality of his work.

Sounds great. When can I play it?

Warfare 2525 is currently hosted on Microsoft SkyDrive. The folder can be found right here.

Warfare 2525 is currently in the beta stage, and is thus guaranteed to be buggy. However, I can’t fix these bugs if I don’t know about them. I would like to ask that you play this game as much as possible, especially the multiplayer, to help me find and fix bugs. Bug reports can be submitted either with an e-mail to developer@jotunstudios.com. I ask for a description of the hardware you’re running the game on, a description of the bug you encountered and anything you did before and afterwards, and a screenshot of the bug if possible.

Expect more updates in the near future and feel free to ask me any questions about the game.
