Warning about Blender 2.54 (new issues?)

Just a heads up for an issue that caught my attention. While working on my latest game, the Blender 2.49 level file I was using got screwed and will no longer load. This seems to have its base in me opening a 2.54 build and doing a save of a different file, while 2.49 was running. While this other file had -nothing- to do with the level file, my level got messed up anyway.

However, the FBX non-loading issue could (earlier at least) be circumvented by opening the newer version file in a supported version, and doing the save that way. I saved an entire project this summer thanks to that. This will no longer work.

So, basically this small dual-wielding seems to have caused me days of work loss.
I cannot think of anything else out of the ordinary that would cause this.
Any ideas how to resolve this? Otherwise you may gloat at my dismay and hope this does not happen to you.

It does indeed seem as no files at all will be converted. Just tried with a blank new project and saving a 2.49 startup file (cube, camera, light) to the assets folder. Same problem. WTF?

just rightclick - reimport it and see what happens.

Also if we are talking about U3, be aware that the loader no longer supports FBX 6 from what I recall from the lead artist on the team I am, so if the file is in fbx 6 format its useless.

Wow, you are fast, Dreamora. The reimport didn’t work, which was just why I got so scared/frustrated.

I solved it anyway, though. The issue was that Blender 2.54 was somehow broken. I deinstalled it together with my old 2.49 copy, and redownloaded. Works perfectly now. This is the first time I’ve gotten a critical error due to a alpha/beta version of Blender.

As for FBX 6, how do I know which FBX version Blender/Unity is running?
