WARNING: ETC2 texture format is not supported, decompressing texture

Hello,

I am building Android games and in logs I can found:
WARNING: ETC2 texture format is not supported, decompressing texture

Using Unity 5.5.1f1

I found also this :
DisplayProgressbar: Android SDK Detection
1150: [Unity] AndroidSDKTools:
1151: [Unity] root : /APPLICATION_PATH/Android Studio.app/sdk/
1152: [Unity] tools : /APPLICATION_PATH/Android Studio.app/sdk/tools

1154: [Unity] build-tools : /APPLICATION_PATH/Android Studio.app/sdk/build-tools/23.0.2

1157: [Unity] zipalign : /APPLICATION_PATH/Android Studio.app/sdk/build-tools/23.0.2/zipalign

Why ETC2 is not supported for Android and why using Android 23.0.2 and not Android 25 ???

My games have many png files packed in sprite atlas and need ETC2, else the game wont load because of memory.

And why this warning:
ResolutionException: Android SDK path not set. Set the Android SDK property using the Unity “Edit > Preferences > External Tools” menu option on Windows or the “Unity > Preferences > External Tools” menu option on OSX. Alternatively, set the ANDROID_HOME environment variable

Note that for IOS same warning for PVRTC appears:
[Unity] WARNING: PVRTC texture format is not supported, decompressing texture

By searching what texture throw this warning I think it is normal because not in Power of 2 textures. But when packed in sprite atlas I think their will be in ETC2 and PVRTC, right?

Then the last question is why Android 23.0.2 instead of 25?

ETC2/PVRTC - Those warnings are about texture compression in the editor, not in the built player.

“Android SDK path not set” - I’m assuming you are using the Google Play Games plugin? They have some code that requests the android sdk path before our build process sets it, so those warnings end up getting printed.

Android 23.0.2 vs Android 25 - to be clear, this is just the version of the android build tools, not sdk version. We don’t always update that to the latest version of the build tools right away unless there is a strong reason to do so. Is there something specifically that isn’t working with version 23?

Hello dannyd.

I use build-tools 25 and Build is working fine locally. But on the cloud I have error in manifest merging: see : Unity merge manifest error - Unity Services - Unity Discussions

Maybe it is due to build tools version?

I am installing build-tools 23.0.2 and will try to build with it.
