I’ve been waiting for this day to finally show the world what we at Moon Studios have been up to!
Over the past four months, we put together a small independent games studio and immediately started working on our first project: WARSOUP.
WARSOUP is a Realtime Strategy First Person Shooter - We’re combining the first person shooter genre with elements from classic strategy games. Think Halo meets Starcraft.
We put together a first introduction video of an early development build. In the video, we introduce the key elements of WARSOUP, you can watch it right HERE:
Make sure you check it out and leave us some feedback. We’ve been working extremely hard to get to the current state and we can’t wait to hear what you guys think!
Thanks a lot to our team, who’s done an incredible job pushing through to deliver a really polished vertical slice. Great job, you guys!
Sweet, gameplay wise it looks so friggin’ appealing. I wonder how good the balancing is going to get. But combining two genres I adore, this could be an awesome game.
I have to say I don’t know how much I agree on the minimalistic look, or is it a test environment?
And what are the release plans and business plans? I saw some console icons popping up
(hoping there’s gonna be a free option for PC )
I don’t think there is an issue with promoting your art style. Art direction is critical to a game and a lot of time and energy is put into it. Developers also promote their “unique and classy” gameplay elements, or networking features, etc. Why not art? I actually really like the art design in Warsoup. It’s simple, clean and stylized.
As for the lack of soup … I can’t defend you guys on that. Especially because I am now hungry for some.
I gotta say, I viewed it #1 because it sounded eerily close to a concept I’m hoping to be first to make…but (whew!) it’s different!
But really, absolutely amazing. I love the TF2 look (minimal, redvblue, slightly toony). love it! Everything in the demo just ooozed top-notch attention to detail and TLC in the process of making this.
My my, look at me, babbling like an awestruck child…who cares! It’s love at first sight! Finally, a worth successor to Battlzone (although, the lack of tanks is disappointing…)
looks great, stole my idea though douch bags lolz, any who, style looks clean and fast paced Hud looks freaking sweet, as well as the animations, models and pretty much everything the video shows. Would love to see some element of command in here, similar to BF2 were as one person on each team can manage squads and set objective builds, be pretty sweet if someone was watching from above setting objectives and build points, obviously you would get more points for building an object the commander had set as an objective, and less for free builds. That would really enhance the RTS feel of this game as at the moment its more of a fps with resource management.
If you could get a commander type position in the game, maybe even go for squad based command positions for example:
Commander - RTS view - sets squad build points/ objectives defend, attack, build ect Squad Capt - RTS view following squad - acknowledges/denies Commanders orders, sets squad roll, defend/attack/build at this location Squad members - FPS view - tries to follow squad captains orders, can free build/play but more points for objectives Random player - FPS view - free roam/play/build
That would give you the ability to separate squad/team/player resources, so as a good squad may have more resources than a bad one, and thus be more effective on the battlefield. You could even set the commander based objectives to add to the teams resources, squad based to add to your squads resources and free builds to your resources. Commanders can use team resources, to build specialized things you cant build in a squad or alone, squad resources would be managed by the squad leader, and you guessed it you manage your free build resources.
Any way that’s a lot of work to do, game looks great, but you could do with implementing the RTS more like the system above describes.
This sort of reminds me of the old Battlezone games but without the vehicle stuff and a better focus on economy. Looks like a pretty slick idea, can’t wait to see how it turns out. Definitely keep us all updated with videos/demos should be become available.
im not sure if its the same result you are trying to achieve but, have you played battalion wars (game cube and wii) ?? its not that focused on economy, but has a nice way to control trops like a rts, and require a lot of strategy and thinking about how to use your units. like i said, im not sure if thats what you want to make in your game, but playing it could give you some nice ideas
