I’m a registered owner of Unity 3.1. A year ago I purchased Unity 2.6 when they had the 20% off coupon for the end of December. I never received any newsletter for the holiday period and never saw an announcement of any discount coupon for this year. Did anyone see one yet? I’d like to buy the iOS pro package and was waiting for a holiday coupon. Thanks.
There wasn’t any. From a business standpoint it’s probably not a good idea to get into the habit of having discounts always at the same time of year, because then you end up with a significant number of people holding off purchases until then.

I think the window already was open for a pretty long time this year during the preorder period.
Although it depends on a few parameters like alternative investments, interest yield, availability of a more reasonable version regarding bugs, … how much of a benefit this really was.
Considering that once you bought 3.0, all further upgrades are free until 4.0, I’d say it was a substantial benefit.

It depends on when we’ll receive a useable version. If such a version will be around soon and available for a reasonable amount of time then yes. If they’ll continue to introduce half baked features instead of fixes and reliability and a mature version will be more 3.8, with only a few more months until the whole things starts with V4 all over again, then most probably not.
Maybe it would be generally a good idea, supporting the older version for some overlapping time as long as there are serious issues with the new version.
