Having wasted an hour today I find it’s impossible to:
do a night time scene with a boat’s lights illuminating water
do any sort of floating candle effect
use night time style water with lights
I mean even simple vertex lighting would do it for me. I’m not sure where in the shader I’d add simple vertex lighting to this shader either. Any suggestions are welcome.
The reflective skybox thing isn’t dynamic enough nor precise enough. How about a cave, with adventurers with torches wading through water?
It’s clear water4 is unsuited to a lot of purposes. I felt the need to rant at the fact nobody making this thought about a huge number of games - just a bit of water in the background. What happens when 2 ships with lighting pass? They are reflected in colour only, and not anything remotely illuminated.
I think its not to much of a demand that Unity should ship with at least a decent water shader considering how many ppl that need that for their games. Nothing fancy, just a basic good performing water shader, that supports lights as well of course : )
I haven’t looked at the Default water for some time and I guess I didn’t realize you couldn’t add additional lights…
The 2.0 update to Suimono (/shameless plug) can accept multiple lights, as shown in the picture below… is this the lighting effect you’re talking about? or something else… ?
