Way to speed up starting an App?

Hi there,
are there any ways to speed up the start of an App, which build for iOS in Unity?

I just want to build a App which uses iGUI and some text/pictures, but it takes up to 6 seconds to start. Thats really to slow.

Are there any options to start it faster?

I’m on Unity 3

Make sure your initial scene has the bare minimum in it. Logo screen and a fade shouldn’t take to long to load up.

I did these things and it still needs 4 seconds to start on an iPhone 5.

Again: This App does nothing else than showing 5 Tabs via iGUI and some Text with background-gfx.

And how long does a new Unity project take up to load to empty scene with same device?

edit: are you really using PVRTC compression or have images set to true color? image format does not matter

Without anything it needs 2 seconds. Yes, everything is set to highest compression.

My suggestion is…4 seconds isn’t going to piss anyone off. Just put a fancy graphic in there for them to stare at while it says loading in the bottom. Trust me most games take anywhere from 5-20 seconds to start depending if they have game center attached to it or load data from a web server. Your trying to hard to optimize something that sounds like it is already optimized. Start up Jetpack joyride it takes a good 20 seconds to boot up…

Depends what type app it is as it didn’t sound like a game. If its an app you switch to for a short session it gets annoying while with games it doesnt matter that much as you probably gonna play a bit longer

Yeps, that’s the problem. It isn’ a game

Start up on an almost empty scene, and set a loading bar progress to the beginning with info to read about the game to be sure the player doesn’t wait on static screen.

What I use to do is to load the first menu from the Resources folder only.
But not in one time.
Load a texture every 3 or 4 update to be sure the app can breath a little bit and you can switch of static screen + update loading bar.

Finally the very first scene content the loading bar script (+ mini texture for the loading bar) + static screens to read (like instructions, tip, or could be ads to the bottom, et…).

Again:

This App is not a game and only contains iGUI with 5 background-graphics, 5 button-graphics and some text. That’s all

game or not, that is the same to deal with

if your 5 background are 6 meg each, just load one and download dynamically for the Resource the 5 other one.

Ok and can you give me a sample-code how to do this?

Sure, all you need to know about the Resources :

Perfect! Thank you

lol

Did you manage to get the startup time reduced?

No and I don’t think that there’s a way. There’s a minimum startup-time where the engine start’s itself while the App/Game is starting up.

.

Hey! I get it, slow app starts can be frustrating. For quicker iOS app launches in Unity, try optimizing assets. Compress images using tools like TinyPNG and consider using asset bundles for iGUI. Also, check Unity’s script execution order.
