This is my first post ever to this, proven, very useful community. Me and my brother are Unity’s active developers for the past two and a half years and we are the makers of the free fan project called Wing Commander: FlatUniverse. The project is at the end of its alpha phase and in a few days we are releasing the latest version 0.8.5. The target platforms are Windows, Mac, Linux. I have uploaded a few screen shots from the upcoming release:
Needless to mention that all of the screen shots above are in game or should I better say, in Unity. The game is a top down space shooter, which is actually an expansion to the universe of the legendary Wing Commander by Chris Roberts. We are currently working two people for its development plus one more who is the donor of the spaceship models.
If you are interested in playing our alpha version and have better opinion about this project, you may visit our home page: http://flatuniverse.solsector.net
Right now the 0.6.5 version is uploaded, however I would suggest that you should keep your appetite for a few more days and try the 0.8.5.
I hope you like what you just saw and remember that we are always open for any suggestions and ideas you might give us.
As a matter of fact, I do now. And truly it is a game for reference since our gameplay is the same. For sure it is dated but who doesn’t learn from the old.
Thank you for your time and interest. I hope you’ll give a try to our game and tell us your opinion about our progress.
Recently a youtube channel called Side Quests by MemoryLeakDeath prepared a walkthrough regarding our latest release of Wing Commander: Flat Universe 0.8.5. It is a great opportunity for those who are interested about our project and didn’t have the time to download it, to learn what this game is all about.
Yesterday, fans from all over the world celebrated the 25th birthday of Wing Commander. During the livestream, there was a reference of Flat Universe from WCNews representative Chris Reid a little before Chris Roberts himself showed up in the conversation.
