We need the ability to customize the splash image or turn it off completely

Unity made a very big mistake.

For years there was a ban on changing the initial splash screen (which looks terrible and has no possibility of customization), as a result, all those who didn’t buy a license (mostly cheap and low-quality projects) remained with Unity logo, while large projects removed the splash screen and removed from the brand.

Now every time the Unity logo appears there is an association with a bad and low-quality product, and at the same time when it’s gone, it feels like it’s not Unity.

- My suggestion would be to give the ability to either remove the splash image, or allow customization with different types of animations, colors, locations, so that you can link the Unity logo to the logo of the game.

We’ve covered this a million times. Not only is this not the case in any meaningful numbers, but people don’t even see the splash screen until after they’ve bought the game. If you want it gone, just get Plus.

Its presence is not beneficial to the engine itself, as it spoils the reputation of the brand. Unity have a very bad reputation among players and one of the reasons is the splash screen

we have many threads about this subject, there is no value in another rant-thread from a random forum user, who doesn’t really know what they are talking about

Long gone are the days with Unity being associated with bad games and folks transplanting those opinions onto the engine itself.

There’s enough amazing games out there these days for the general consensus to have turned otherwise.

If anyone thinks Unity is a bad engine because bad games were made on it, then that person it a bit of an idiot.

We had thousands of those threads.

Buy subscription if you don’t like splash screen.

It is beneficial, as it advertises the engine.
Regarding “bad reputation” → tiny vocal minority of steam community that just happens to be composed out of nutcases does not matter. Those people were never potential customers to begin with.

This person may be an idiot, but he is a potential buyer and you need to think about his opinion. I watch videos where they often say if a game is laggy, it’s Unity, if a game has bad animations, it’s Unity.

If people see the unity logo in the beginning they immediately think the game is bad.

Unity needs to take care of their reputation. Now the developers are trying to remove the engine logo from their game even though in theory they should do exactly the opposite. You should be proud of the logo, not avoid it.

A single “potential buyer” is not worth chasing. At best it is a single sale. A single sale won’t cover even one hour of the development time.

Entire group of people complaining about splash screen is not worth pursuing, because those are entitled troublemakers which never cared about the product in the first place. They only wanted to express their opinion and feel important. Even if you remove the logo, they’ll post something like “Aha! I KNEW it is unity. Not buying!” to troll your community.

Then be proud of the logo, nothing is stopping you. Actual developers make games and do not waste time worrying about splashscreen.

No one is talking about a couple of players, go into any place where players sit and ask their opinion about unity and you will hear not the kindest words. Unity has been killing the reputation of their logo for years and I think they should start fixing the situation after the rebranding.

Developers should not remove the engine logo from the game.

…and those people are going to be irrelevant (and possibly entitled) vocal minority. Majority of players do not participate in communities and do not discuss the games. They just play. From those that participate in communities and discuss the game, majority does not care about the logo. They care about the game. Those are your potential customers, and not the guys freaking out over the logo.

Then don’t remove it. Keep using free tier and you’ll have your logo.

Or pay subscription and remove the logo.

You can also switch to another engine.

I don’t want to remove the logo.

My game has its own logo with its own style and animation. The splash screen with the Unity logo allows you to change only the background (black or white) and change the delay (at least 2 seconds).

I need more settings so that the Unity logo has a style similar to the game logo. Change animations (at least have the ones they use on YouTube), change colors and gradients, logo location.

In essence, the developers of the engine tell us - “Our logo is trash, which you can remove with a subscription”.

Getting back to the topic.

You do have ability to remove or customize splash screen. For that you have to buy plus or pro. Then splash screen settings will be unlocked somewhere in the setting (I think it was Player Settings).

If you don’t want to buy subscription, you can’t remove splashscreen. In this scenario your game will be advertising the engine. This is not a bad price, given that it usually takes a decade to develop software of this size.

Vocal minorities that dislike unity do not matter. In the end, if they dislike unity, by removing the screen you’ll be trying to trick them into buying unity game. So just ignore those people and let them go. They are not your potential clients.

At the moment a HUGE number of titles were made with unity engine, in all genres.
https://steamdb.info/tech/Engine/Unity/
Notable recent titles are Dyson Sphere, Genshin Impact and many others. It is also very popular engine for VR titles. So in the first place people disliking the logo are out of touch with reality. As such there’s no point in trying to make a product for them.

The bottom line is:
If you want to customize splash screen, pay for subscription.
If you cannot pay or accept existence of splash screen, well, other engines exist.

Good luck.

Actually, you most likely are not allowed to alter unity logo at all, splash screen or not. It is their trademark and you do not own it. Same applies to other engines. I’d suggest to contact support if you want altered logo in your game.

Just sounds like OP doesn’t want to pay for a pro license.

Who cares about their opinion of Unity? They have never made or published anything let alone a game. Their opinion about unity is utterly irrelevant noise.

And these turkeys are probably the type to badmouth Unity/a Unity game in one breath, and then play their favourite game probably made in Unity.

Probably because they don’t realise how many games out there are made in Unity.

Just don’t make a game worth bad-mouthing.

  1. You CANNOT change the style of the Unity logo. (there are brand guidelines)
  2. If you want to remove it, get a subscription
  3. The logo has zero impact on sales.

Closing because this has been done to death. Don’t worry about the logo, worry about your game. Priorities.
