Hi,
I just received this email from Unity, or so it seems. I’d like to know if it genuine or phishing.
Thank you.
Hi,
I just received this email from Unity, or so it seems. I’d like to know if it genuine or phishing.
Thank you.
This is genuine. (Thanks for checking!)
How come I didn’t get it?
The questions asked are meant for professional devs; I’m a hobbyist, I cannot answer them. Anyway, I’m not interested in the prices. Thanks for asking anyway!
Nor did I, but I’m guessing it has an accompanying survey about pricing, in which case I was in the first round of these. Unfortunately there wasn’t a fancy giveaway at the time.
Ill happily update some database for a shot at prizes.
GIMME
Unless it’s an Oracle database… then I’m out.
ha! well, I sure dont want to develop on it if thats the case.
It’d be nice if these emails ever got my name right. I changed my name a year ago and even updated it on the site but it still calls me Erin.
Can you please recommend to whoever writes these e-mails that “Help us verify your information” no longer is a phrase associated with anything legit. It’s the standard phrase for phishing mails that pretend to be paypal, amazon, etc… These things have become so real looking (like using my real name and the address where I used to live a year ago) that I’m starting to have trouble telling them apart, and I err on the side of caution.
Agreed completely.
When I read the thread title my first thought was: “Well, there’s another phishing attempt”. After opening the thread, the email reads exactly as a well done phishing email is. “Update your information for some good cause. In case that’s not enough, here’s a raffle that you’ll never win because there isn’t one!”
It’s pretty sad that it’s needed, but differentiating your wording/format from classic crooks would be helpful.
Did ANY unity pro user get it? One of the questions was if I estimate my annual income to be above or below 100k, which afaik happens to be the limit when one would need to switch from the free personal edition to a pro license. Maybe they want to find people who forgot that they have to switch from free to pro once they crossed that limit? Aside from name etc. there was no other question if I remember correctly.
No Pro license here, no email. If I recall correctly, Unity regularly polls a “random” selection of users instead of the entire userbase.
I’m also wondering what to put in the form. I’m a student, but I’m using a pro license I purchased myself.
it’s kind of funny that inside the sweepstake, it talks about how people of underage wouldn’t be able to receive the prices in case they win and that a parent would need to receive it for them. But how can a 16 year old be part of a company? legally?
Yeah I almost didn’t open it. Doesn’t help that my old Unity sales rep email account was hacked and sent me real phishing attempts before too.
Legal working age varies from country to country. Or state to state in the USA. Some states like Arizona allow you to start working at 16 with no restrictions, some place restrictions on the industries you can be part of, some require special work permits, etc.
Did you know that Georgia allows you to work in wholesale and retail at the age of 12 with sufficient permission?
16? I had a paid job with a contract and stuff at 11 or 12. NZ has no formal legal age restriction for workers.
There is a bunch of work you can’t do, but that’s around the safety laws governing what young people can and can’t do. Can’t babysit under 14. Can’t operate farm machinery under 16. Can’t interfere with regular schooling under 17. Can’t serve alcohol or have sex under 18. Can’t enter a gambling area under 20.
But you can generally get work if you are willing and able from pretty much any age.
I have a couple of older 3.x licenses I haven’t bothered to upgrade, and a current 5x license, maybe that’s why I got the mail? Who knows I updated my details though for a chance to put something on my face that isn’t my palm.
