Web 3.0 Keyword: 3D, Integration, Technology, Romantic

web 3.0 is belong to 3D world, and more romantic world.
My first 3D website 510KB, (ADSL2+) 10 second to load the web page.
More information will update after testing…

Hello everyone,
I think I should introduce myself before I do the first posting, sorry about that.
I am a student studying Information technology major in Australia, but I do some 3D unit during my studying as well, so I can do both script and 3D, but not that professional, however because of that, I can balance the size of my project, this project currently is 381KB, which is very close the currently Flash website size. So I think it should be “3D website”

But whatever, I just enjoy the process and help me to apply my master degree.

I will public the link after I totally finish, hope everyone can give me some comments.
Thanks everyone,
Thanks Unity.

My final version of the project size is 328KB, nearly close to the flash website with simple database function, actually it has all of the basic function as a small webpage, I just need two or three weeks to prepare server. Hope everyone can give me some comments about the project at that time.

Regards

I am doing the project research and development about 3D website during my this university summer holiday, most of people say the ‘Second life’ is the future sample for 3D website, but I just have different opinion.

Before I discuss my opinion, first I think I should talk about the different between website and game. I was doing website design unit and game design unit in my university last year, both of them can be call a kind of computer system, however the basic different for the two system is purpose. Website system present a character of information supplier, how to present information and how to transfer information are the key points for the website developer, I think website is design for this target at the beginning of the history, so when web developer start to design the website, the first thinking is system compatibility and performance, they will assume their user working on some historical platform, for example, Windows 98/2000server, IE 6.0, P4 and so on, if the website can work on these serious platforms, the system will be prefect; but for the games, the important word is entertainment, the game developer will assume the user has the best game platform in the world, (one reason is for good looking, the other reason is new technology (Platform) will come out when game developer design their games, so the ‘best’ one will become history.), the developer will do as detail of adornment as they can, like rendering, lighting and animation, these adornment will cost the usage of CPU, RAM and so on, of course the game system size will be huge. Finally, the game system will be perfect looking with good entertainment.

And then we talk about the ‘Second life’, the sample for 3D website. I use second life to discuss, because I play it for a period like make script and design and upload 3D model on the platform. For my opinion, it is not a game, because I cannot see any entertainment, and it is not a website as well, because it is not good way to transfer and present information, if you want search information, do you think you want to waste time to load some useless 3D models, absolute not, you want get information first, so Second life still have a quite long way to go.

In the next generation website 3.0 (Only for 3D section), paint text webpage will still the main character, 3D is only another co-star, however, if someone still want to do the pure 3D website, there are two ways, one is waiting the Internet to go to fiber generation; the other way is my current concept, reduce your website under 500KB, cut the details of the modeling and rendering, just force on my main purpose, like this project, I just thinking how to use the 3D environment to performance the movie and supply some information.

That is all of my own personal opinion about website 3.0 - 3D section, thanks.

I feel sorry for you, it seems that you don’t have a clue about web development, if you post here images with 2096 pixels width.

you can cut your website under 500k but you can also work smart. I do not think that reducing an eye candy is a good thing for a website. Today-s website standards are very high.

Instead of making the user load the whole 3d site you should cut your site to smaller chunks and let user have some of the content as soon as possible. Other content will stream in background. Just like you have game levels streaming in web games.

I suggest to re-size your pictures. It makes your thread very hard to read.

I will start a club on the internet maybe two months later, because I have another project working with my partner’s team to start a communication website. I will post it two months later.

For the second question, I agree with your opinion, and I think about that as well. I tested every function size to control total one in this project. For the rendering, there are two functions to control one game object: one is for the material solution, like wood, metal and so on, normally it need 2KB for that. the other is texture, I assume the texture is 100KB which I can render my project looks good(no distortion).(For the games, it need at least two texture, one is normal texture, the other is light map). you can calculate how long you will take for that loading. Script size can be ignored.

You can ask website to load GUI first, to let user to read your website information, but you still need to think about how long you will take to finish to load the your 3D environment, and how long the user can finish their reading and start to browse your 3D environment, if the user finish the reading, but you 3D environment still do not finish loading, I do not think your 3D website is good enough.

For the current professional website (web 2.0), user only need load 10KB and then they can see the website interface, the other content will be loaded later, but if the user still can not see the whole website in 30 seconds, it will think the network is too slow, you must think about that as well to design 3D one.

By the way, I suggest unity to make a system for calculating the size for every game object as detail as possible.

Thanks for your opinion…It is interesting to debate with others.

I don’t understand what this is, but you should fix those weird colors. Make it look at least a little bit more realistic by using proper textures, instead of just coloring the models with purple, red, green and whatever, because it looks just horrible…
Hurts my eyes when I look at it :frowning:

Sorry, I do know have too much knowledge about color, just change to star skybox which is normal texture, because the normal texture is smaller than the colorful one, so do you think is good?
But the project become 318KB now, much smaller.

Final Web 3D interactivity Performance stage report, and welcome comments.
Thanks
