Has anyone had any luck getting their unity web game up on any of the major portals? The two I’m most interested in are BigFish and Reflexive. BigFish should be ok because they accept ActiveX web games but I’m not sure whether Reflexive does. Any other major portals accepting web games?
The retail/download games should be ok unless their DRMs are incompatible with Unity.
Tom, have you been chatting to either of these portals about accepting Unity web games?
Had a long discussion with BigFishGames and they told me (even recently) that they still not accept Unity-made games as they are still “watching” how it develops. Talked there to Jennifer Davison.
That’s interesting about BigFish. Is that the web client or a downloadable that you are talking about?
Surely it can’t be a downloadable. It’s just an EXE like any other game. And I know they accept ActiveX web clients because PlayFirst get their stuff up there.
Hmmm, is that all the info she game you? Maybe Tom could try and find out where the problem is in the process.
BTW Rob - just because they accept ActiveX doesnt make them accept Unity plugins unfortunately. A year ago the only one we found that accepted Unity web games was Shockwave.
I am not sure if any others have jumped on that bandwagon yet or not.
Are you talking to me there? If so then please know that as the traffic volume here grows I’m less and less able to read every post so random callouts like that won’t always work. But I’m here now so…
We’re talking to other portals right now and coming up with a “portal attack” plan to push more portals to start accepting Unity content. Kongregate.com is the closest in reach (they’re here in SF and I chatted them up at a local game developer event last month), but we’re going after a wide range of portals in a push leading up to and through GDC so that effort is in process now.
