Web player doesn't work on Windows 8.1 (Internet Explorer 11)

When I go here in IE 11, Unity tells me that the web player is not installed. Can anybody else confirm that it does not work in IE 11? I’m using the full RTM version of 8.1 that I installed from MSDN, so this is not the preview version.

I tested this on two machines that had IE 11 installed, and both can’t detect the web player. It worked on a Windows 8 box though.

Yes, this is a known bug, it will be addressed when Unity 4.3 comes out.

Thanks for your response. Any idea when 4.3 will be released?

Windows 8.1 is officially out, any progress?

We don’t have a release date yet.

One question. When you say it will be fixed in 4.3, is that the unity editor or the webplayer?

Also any news regarding this is highly appreciated, cause we have clients who can’t use our solutions.

I think you could better check or wait for a new update of the web player. May be the current version is having some glitches for windows 8.1.

Hey guys,

we’ll have a fix for a part of this issue in 4.3 which will be coming before too long. With that you can use the webplayer in the 32bit version of IE11.
For the 64bit version however considerably more effort is required and we are investigating it at the moment since we don’t support 64bit browsers right now.

I hope it is not too much of an hassle for the time being for you.
Cheers!

For me, it’s becoming a pretty big issue. All of my clients are running IE, but I can’t develop against it since I’m on Windows 8.1 64 bit. I’m probably going to need to re-install this machine with Windows 8.

By the way, I downloaded the 4.3 web player today and saw no difference.

I installed the 4.3.0f4 Web Player and it’s still not working for me in Internet Explorer 11.0.9600.16438 on Windows 8.1 64bit. Still working perfectly fine in Firefox. I understand that the plugin models between the two browsers are different, I also understand that moving to 64 bit is not a trivial task. I hope this gets resolved soon because I do use it for development and end users use it.

As mentioned earlier the 64bit version isn’t supported. The issue for the 32bit version should be fixed soon.

I apologize for the post, it was not clear. I was trying this with IE 32bit (it was just the OS was 64 bit).

Also, we’ve tested on a Windows 7 machine running IE11 32bit with the same failure to load. Rolling back to IE10 has Unity loading fine. Not sure if this is also a known issue for you; I suspect it is.

Thanks for your quick response that the hotfix is coming soon.

IE 11 and UnityWebPlayer 4.3 does not fix this issue. I still have it.

Windows 7 Pro, IE 11.0.9600.16428 (32bit)

@Unity the reports we are getting are that the MS auto-updater pushes IE11 to them. It’s therefore important that it works.

I am also getting this issue with IE 11 on Windows 7 from Unity 4.3.0f4 web builds

Any updates on this? This is a serious issue – over 20% of our Web traffic appears to be using IE11 and since they can’t play, it’s impacting business significantly. And it’s only going to get worse, since as Dom3D observed, IE11 is being sent out over auto-update.

When can we expect a fix? And is there a workaround in the meantime?

I have the same issue, it greatly affects my rating for a game I made:

Are there any update on this?
As it has already been mentioned then IE 11 is being pushed out on windows update. We have clients complaining about our solutions not being available on IE 11.

Any dates, road plan etc. would be welcome

Unity 4.3.1 has been released which fixes the issue (at least for us running Windows 7 and 8.1 with IE 11 here in the office). However, we also had to update our jQuery and UnityObject2.js (and/or UnityObject.js) scripts as well.

You can download the latest versions of UnityObject2 script from here: http://docs.unity3d.com/Documentation/Manual/WorkingwithUnityObject.html (or here for UnityObject.js: http://docs.unity3d.com/351/Documentation/Manual/WorkingwithUnityObject.html)

EDIT: I suspect the core problem is listed in the 4.3.1 Release Notes:

Still not working! Losing customers!!
