Web Player for Unity 1.6, final

Unity 1.6 is going out really soon now. Here is the web player that we are pretty sure is the final 1.6. Please check it out and tell us if everything works fine for you.

OS X download PPC: www.otee.dk/download_webplayer_beta/webplayer-ppc.dmg
OS X download Intel: www.otee.dk/download_webplayer_beta/webplayer-i386.dmg
Windows download: www.otee.dk/download_webplayer_beta/UnityWebPlayer.exe

We made quite some changes to support unity<->browser communication, Windows Vista and other things. Please give it a test drive, especially windows version (and try it on Vista if you have it somewhere).

Some web players to test against:

If you encounter any problems, backwards compatibility issues or crashes: please report the bug with a link to the web player content as soon as possible. Mail to bugs@otee.dk or use Report Bug.app (Mac) or UnityBugReporter.exe (Windows, from Program Files\OverTheEdge\Unity\WebPlayer).

Everything seems to work fine for me. I think I got a slight increase in FPS in the racing demo.

These give me “Error launching Unity Player”

Anyone else getting this?

Hmmm, same here. I’m on a Intel… Should of tried all of them…

yeah same error for same links as StarManta. using Firefox on Intel.

Thanks for the heads up! These have been fixed now, the new web player is uploaded (the links are the same).

Wow, that was quick! Works fine now

Hi Aras,

Tried the new windows web player beta on firefox 2 and it runs awfully, its become very jerky, my music is behaving most oddly - like its on an old record player with someone leaning on the deck slowing it down! and some odd single pixel lines are appearing overlaid on the screen, see attached screenshot.

in internet explorer 7 I have a similar problem to the one I just listed with the music, but the slowdown doesnt occur so that must be firefox 2’s fault.

hope this helps

Run the bug reported from your windows machine. This will report the hardware info to us.

And to clarify: do you have the same slowdowns when playing that web player with the official 1.5.1 plugin (you can get it from here)?

Firstly… run what bug report? theres no bug… its just slow… so nothing comes up as an error or crashes?

Secondly, no, it did not have these problems with the official 1.5.1 player.

Aras was referring to the UnityBugReporter.exe tool, that is installed together with the web player. It doesn’t need to crash to be considered a bug. Slowdowns and glitches are bugs too.

ok ive now run it again and with it running sent you a bug report with the exe i found in the program files with the web player. hope this helps, anything else i can do let me know

cheers,

Will

Update: the (we really hope) final Unity 1.6 web player is uploaded to the same links. Anyone who used the previous 1.6 beta on windows must reinstall it manually. Updates from the official 1.5.1 to 1.6 will just work; manual reinstall is required only for beta testers.

willgoldstone’s slowdown problem should be solved as well now.

Ok have reinstalled manually, slowdown is fixed, but, still have random single pixel lines on the screen and the music still plays very oddly like its being occasionally slowed down, have a listen if u have a pc and player 1.6-

Now the new web player (just installed unity 1.6) crashes my test game on safari, had to do a manual reboot after watching stupid spinny rainbow ball for 10 minutes…

is it just me?

In fullscreen mode the cursor changes based (I think) on what’s behind Unity.
