Web Player Stopped Working

The Unity Web Player stopped working for one of the people on our team today. The Unity logo shows up and the progress bar moves till it gets to the end, then it stops and nothing happens. This happens for all Unity web apps – our new stuff, our old stuff, and even demos on the Unity web site. It’s only affecting this one person’s computer, the rest of us are having no problems with our Unity web apps.

He’s using a MacBook Pro with Mac OS 10.6.8. He’s current on all (10.6) system updates and just reinstalled the Unity Web Player. He’s quit Safari and restarted the Mac many times. He’s tried FireFox, and it gives a “Web Player crashed message,” and when he tried going to the Unity Web Player download page to update the plugin, FF froze. With Chrome, he doesn’t even get the progress bar, the window just goes white, and Chrome also freezes when he goes to the Unity download page. We spent an hour on the phone trying everything I could think of, and still the problem persists.

What can cause the Web Player to just stop while loading?

One new piece of info, this person told me the same thing happens on his wife’s Windows laptop. He said in Chrome on Windows, any page with Unity content crashes the browser. So it’s not just the one computer, but another computer at the same location, and no computers anywhere else.

Could there be something about this person’s network or internet connection that could cause such a problem? I think that’s the only variable we haven’t eliminated. Could there be some Windows malware that might cause such a problem on his network? Hopefully, I can get him to try it using another internet connection tomorrow.
