Web Suggestion: Put the support page in the "Unity" sub-section

Hello everyone,

There is a little something that’s bugging me with the website architecture and I would like to share it with the community. I’m putting myself in the shoes of someone using Unity for the first time and trying to find the ‘real’ documentation.

Naturally, I would go into the “Unity” sub-category, however that page is about marketing information. I would have to click on a 3rd level link to get, at the bottom, a link to the documentation… which is also defeating the overall theme of the “Resource” information box that is at the end of the page and different from the “Unity” category home page.

Alternatively, I could visit the “Community” category; it does have ‘documentation’ in a secondary link of the forum but quite easy to miss also.

But, and I know it might be a bit of a stretch, if I were to miss all those “secondary” reference and dig as to where the documentation is, I’ll find it in the “Company” category. Frankly, linking “Documentation” and “Company” doesn’t sound right to me.

For a page as important as the documentation, for new users, with or without experience in scripting, I’ll be a bit lost in their shoes. Without shame, because I didn’t care about most of the marketing material, it did took me a couple of minutes to find it myself since the website revamp!

Anyhow, I’ll let the community vote if the documentation should be in the “Company” tab.

I’d make teaching it’s own page. Actually, that’s what they’ll be doing soon. They’re making a “LEARN UNITY” page soon.

That sounds great! But will that merge into the “community” (wikis) category too?

It’s a bit of a grey zone in general I think.

It will be in a new section titled “Learn”.

I guess we’ll see how that goes. End point is still valid seeing there is no definitive date for the ‘learn’ initiative (which I support entirely).

How about a “Support” section that has links to all the community pages, plus the documentation, plus the wiki, plus the bonus tutorials and products?

They said, they’re going for the end of march.

Not that it’s a big deal, but documentation isn’t just for learners.

To be honest, though, I don’t mind that the website only has it as secondary links (or in odd places) because you can always get to it from the Help menu in the Editor. On top of that, most of the time I get to it is actually via Google.

I wouldn’t even think to look for the docs on the Unity website, since they are readily available through Unity/Unitron/MonoDevelop. (Not to mention code on this site…those aren’t just pretty colors, they’re links. )

I would make it its own header personally.

The whole goal is to make it easy for people who are Unity noobs, or want to know how it looks like without downloading/installing/testing. Thus, navigating the website…
