Hi, I read many advices saying I should put up a webpage for my indie game. I think it would be good for advertising and getting feedback from users. What do you advice? Do you own pages or did you join game sites that publicise your product?
If you made a webpage, the question is did you use out-of-box solution or did you make your page out of scratch? I need to find a way to make the page because I do not know how to make one.
What do you think about google appengine? Is there any useful way to use it for game or webpage?
I don’t really know a good place to put your site on, but for the making part i would suggest you go and learn html and css, since it’s really easy to do the sites yourself (in my opinion atleast). If you need dynamic functionality and databases i would suggest you add some php and mysql to the learning pot.
If you are interested, this site has helped me a lot:
I agree with using Wordpress, as there are some brilliant Templates out there especially on www.themeforest.com. I’m using one on my website and the ease of use gives lots of options with a learning curve that’s really easy.
Or you could use a framework to help speedup your site development, you can write up a decent site in a few hours with a good framework. Try checking github.
Don’t do any site garbage!
As soon as you have a beta email to portals, such as bigfish, gamehouse, etc. If they like your game, you will become rich in a matter of days.
The volume of games they sell a day is mind blowing.
You will never ever sell as much if you sell on your own.
Of course they take 35-50% but it is nothing if your game is sold by thousands a day.
They will market it for you on their own sites and through other portals they have contracts with.
Just email them and ask anything.
