Well, I downloaded Unity.

I just had a 20 month contract at work end and I can’t find more, so I’m running off money I saved up to fund my making of games.

And I haven’t coded in a decade. Things certainly are different than I remember, back when I did a level for Duke Nukem 3D.

I’m not sure what I’m going to make first. Probably something in VR, since I have a Vive. But basically, right now I’m just scared. I’m going to go watch some beginner tutorials. Wish me luck.

Welcome!

VR is great but you might want to get your bearings first with something a bit simpler. There are a ton of limitations when it comes to what Unity stuff you can use in order to get that 90 fps.

Plenty of assets and tutorials to get you started. If you’re already familiar with Duke3D then you might consider dabbling in something similar. I’ve been working on a Quake 2 clone just to hone my fps development skills so I can tell you that’s pretty easy.

Either way, welcome to the community!

Speaking of tutorials a quick search of Reddit dug up the following free mini course for the Vive, SteamVR, and Unity.
