What are the best resources for good level design practices?

Your making a game and even if it’s open world the space or level design is often critical to making a good game.

So where can I find the best resources for learning about good level design, 2D, 3D, 4D, 6DOF?

Or what games have the best level design for their genre/style?

All level design have their roots in the same principle, once you understand these principle you can design any progression for any sorts of game, even if the genre is original and hasn’t established nature. Because level design is really the design of progression, ie how to apply, organize and compose the rules and elements defined by a game design in a way that produce a target experience.

Once you understand that you pick lesson from one genre and apply it to totally new genre. For example Phoenix Wright was made by bringing some principle of fighting games into VN to bring dynamism, who would thought of that? The result speak by themselves. Can you conceptualize a multiplayer fps game where you bring the principle of racing game into the progression?
