What are you guys using to 3D Model?

What are you guys using to model? I want something other than Blender, I don’t care if it costs money i’ll pay for the software I want a nice program that is easy to learn and can make really good models at ease. thanks!

Blender’s not hard to learn and you can make good models with ease once you learn it. Those things being relative of course. The fact is, that’s just the way things are–no matter the program, you need to put in the effort. There’s no magic bullet; it’s mostly about your skill and ability. That’s not to say that you might not like some other program better, which is entirely possible, but don’t fall victim to the “grass is greener on the other side of the fence” mentality, thinking that you need to find a program with a magic “make my stuff look awesome” button, when what you really need is just practice.

I know that, but what overall is the best program a lot of people use maya, wondering if I should switch to that.

I use 3ds Max, but that’s because I have a games industry background and it’s what I know.

MAX and Maya are enormously powerful tools, but the only way you’ll be creating models ‘with ease’ is after a lot of hard work and practice, there are no shortcuts worth taking. If I was starting over, I’d probably be focusing on Blender, just for the benefit of not being reliant on expensive software.

I don’t think so. See below.

There is no “best”, that’s the whole point. There have been people who switched to Blender after having used Maya or Max. It’s entirely legitimate to prefer Maya/Max/something else, but what you’re really looking for is an “easy button”, and that ain’t gonna happen.

I use Maya since it was Alias Maya, before Autodesk.
But I am trying to learn Modo now, I struggle much to create UV maps on it.

Really depends on what your used to, but to save the trouble you probably want to use blender. Then if down the line you want to switch go ahead.

Blender. It has a steep learning curve (just like vi), but it worth the while getting used to all the shortcut keys. It’s free and helps you to become a productive 3D modeller. “Productive” is my keyword here.

Why not 3DSMAX / Lightwave / Maya / etc? Well, IMHO, go ahead. These packages are good. As you get more proficient in these packages, you will clear all those icons / toolbars from the screen. You will maximise your 3D workspace and work more productively with hotkeys. Then you will realise "wait, it looks like Blender after all." One thing I like about Autodesk’s gigantic product.is, they import FBX file format well.

All the best.

Hotkeys are good. But just hotkeys is bad. Hotkeys have no tooltip, no toolnamelabel, you dont even know the tool exists. And thats a productivitiy slowdowner. You spend much more time to learn the UI with just hotkeys, and you loose time again and again with the try to remember the right hotkey for not so often used tools. Blender has over 300 of them. And other 3D packages has not fewer.

That`s why they have invented the graphical UI for software at all. Great thing this

I like your argument. Noted! Tooltip is good for refresher or new user IMHO. Yes, graphical UI make things user friendly. From my experience with Maya 4 (not 2014), I used all the icons. After a while, once I learned the hotkeys, I removed those toolbars and simply used my spacebar to access functions quickly.

As Blender as productivity slowdowner, for a beginner Blender could be a challenge. But it worth the while to learn, good in the long run. As I said, it has steep learning curve comparable to vi/vim text editor.

Softimage is the best. I formed a committee with myself and I voted it up  Seriously, I really do think it has the best UI. Having said that, spend some time trying them all. If you end up doing this for the next 20 years, there’s really no downside to spending the time.
