What assets would you use to help/speed up development of crpg game similar to Pillars of Eternity or Baldur’s Gate? What would you recommend?

ORK Framework. It’s a complete RPG framework.

If your game is very dialogue heavy, or if you plan to manage your content in an external product such articy:draft, may I suggest you consider the Dialogue System for Unity. It has extensive ORK integration. Try the evaluation version for free to see if it would be helpful.

If you’re a Unity Plus or Pro user, you can get ORK + Dialogue System + Gaia + A* Pathfinding at a discount with the RPG Asset Kit bundle.

If you choose not to use ORK (or any similar framework; there are others), consider using something like PlayMaker to give your level designers the ability to script events without having to write text-based code. Similarly, a cutscene editor such as SLATE will be very helpful.

You’ll probably also want a more advanced character controller such as Opsive’s Third Person Controller or ootii’s Third Person Motion Controller.

There are also plenty of good art assets such as icon packs, GUI skins, music sound effects, and models.

Thanks, i have opsive and pathfinding. Will consider the rest, definietly will buy dialogue system. Any idea have could i easly do fog of war similar to the one in Pillars of eternity? Never done anything like that in Unity. Slate look really amazing and never heard of it before so thanks.

What about uScript? Is it as good as playmaker? Or other similar to playmaker that would be better?

Would Terrain Composer 1 or 2 be as good as GaIA or would you still recommend gaia? Or it doesn’t really matter?

It looks like there are some fog of war assets on the store. I’ve never used Tiles of War, but it might be a good fit for your needs. Speaking of which, Pillars is 2D. If you’re thinking of making a 2D isometric style game, you might not want Terrain Composer or Gaia. Instead, you’ll want a good tile editor.

Do a google search. Every once in a while there’s a good thread discussing the merits of the various visual scripting tools. I’m sure uScript is great. I just personally prefer PlayMaker because it has such wide support for other products, and if another teammate is familiar with any visual scripting tool it’s probably PlayMaker.

Check out their feature sets for your needs. The Gaia developer recently released a related product called GeNa. This might sway your choice, depending on your needs.

Whichever products you choose, try to iron out your entire workflow before adding any real content. It’ll save you a lot of headaches down the road. And have fun!
