So my team found itself with some time to kill between projects and we thought we’d see what we could do in two weeks.
This is a link to the post-mortem and the final game:
We’re considering porting the project to the iPhone, so any and all feedback would be much appreciated!
UPDATE**
We’ve taken all this feedback to heart (well, most of it anyway) and have put together a re-release for the Unity contest on Kongregate! You can see us there at this link: Play QBCube, a free online game on Kongregate
That game is excellent! I could see this being one of those puzzle games you just can’t stop playing. I would say put this on the iPhone/iPad if you already have the licence for it. If not I might hold off since no one knows for sure yet if Apple is gonna reject all Unity apps since it doesn’t conform to their new iOS4 rules or whatever. Now excuse me… I have some QBQUBE to play
I dont know if this is a bug or feature, but if the cube is nearby the boundary and one rotates the level around holding space the level restarts if the cube is above the boundary, even if space is not yet released.
In my opinion the check for hitting the boundary should only take place when space is not pressed, so you can look around even in positions where you would die if you release space.
Yeah, great game! Like Bluster T Hogwash, I tried clicking all over to start. Finally tried WASD, got a reaction, and figured out how to play. You could pop up instructions if the user clicks anywhere.
I definitely think it would be a good iPhone game.
The trick for you developers is to make enough levels that are challenging and interesting. Because once you know how to finish a level, there is no challenge (or interest).
Great article, great game and concept.
Excellent as an educational game for learning spatial visualisation skills too, I think, where you could ramp up the difficulty in various ways.
