I was wondering, do any of you do any coding outside of games?
I do some server side for loggin and registering… but its all -for- games
and a patcher ![]()
Personally, I still get most of my income by coding (or designing) outside of games. Mainly:
- Touchscreen applications for museums or exhibitions (usually Flash, but also Unity)
- Some website (though I just do the html/css/js/little-php there, and have a partner who does the real aspx coding parts)
- HOTween, ehehe. Since it’s not a game, I suppose it may count (though it doesn’t count for income, almost :P)
i make utilities for myself (coded in c++)
everything else is work/game related.
I usually dedicate one day a week to other projects than my game. Usually some sort of application where I implement some of the mechanics from my primary game development. Currently I developing a rather interesting drawing app for the Ipad based on some of these mechanics.
I find that this method helps me to avoid burnout on my game, as well as enabling a kind of feedback loop between the lessons learned on either project.
none :(, I’ve been trying to get into web development, but somehow fall back into game coding…
sure, do app stuff. Client work ![]()
This. I try to get into web design, I don’t know why, but I just can’t.
Speech recognition. To help people with disabilities.
Sofrware Engineer - currently work in medical industry, before that oil gas, consultanting for larger companies usually @ using Java/GWT/Oracle/etc… typical JavaEE stuff. Recently (last few years) I’ve been focused on client side, which is a nice change of pace for me tbh, so in that vein i’m dealing with a lot of WS/GWT stuff :).
Mac Linux USB Loader, as well as some other proprietary stuff.
I am one of two programmers in our IT department responsible for a number of applications used at our office and branches in different cities/countries. I used to create and maintain websites for fan projects and friends as a hobby, too, but lost interest.
I do C# .NET applications or flash games mostly if i’m not doing Unity. And ofcourse i do random programming just to learn, i’ve recently tried C++ out a bit, and i’ll get to learning it more later on.
I need to revisit HTML/PHP and all that jazz soon, haven’t really been into webpage design. ![]()
I’m still new (on and off for 3 years, going to IT school thingy, will soon finish).
Haven’t done it in a long time, but programmed PLCs and elevator controllers. Also some embedded systems using things like PIC.
I had to program an elevator controller in octal once. Not cool.
Hopefully I can use some of those skills at work again but not much demand for it in the city. If I had more free time I would definitely be doing some microcontroller projects.
I have maybe 10 or so apps on iOS and WP7. Also do commercial system monitoring software for my “day job”.
