What do you think about my Patreon campaign for a Renewable Energy Tycoon Game?

Patreon here: Claudio A | creating a video game - Power The Grid | Patreon

Hello, I have been developing Power The Grid, it is my first game and it is about energy management in our society.

It is a strategy game designed not only to be fun, but also to provide a better understanding on how the different energy sources can work together to power our society.

I want to expand my one man team and launched a Patreon to move towards that goal, what do you think about this approach? I am a renewable energy student new to gamedev, so I don’t have experience you might do.

Would love to hear your feedback!

Thanks

Renewable energy student? I didn’t know that was even a thing. What does that even cover? From a technical perspective there is no practical difference between renewable and non renewable sources.

Anyway, back on topic.

Patreon works best when you have an existing community to work with. Figure that about 1% of your player base will like your game enough to make an ongoing contribution.

I am student of a Master Degree in Energy and Environment, I say renewable energies to make it simpler.

Regarding Patreon I am trying to build my community along with it. Even if it is only 1%, it could be enough to get me started and as the game develops I expect those numbers to rise.

Let’s see how it goes. I would love to hear about your experience playing the game.

I don’t think Patreon will get you far. I think you should seek funding either from government sources pushing the game as an educational plattform to be used in schools maybe, or seek the biggest manufacturers of related technology and offer them to make it a branded promo game if they fund you.

P.S.: might maybe want to change the name, there is a rather popular boardgame called “power grid” I believe.

pfft names good dont let anyone make you change it (lol personal peeve :stuck_out_tongue: dont mind me??? )

thats the kind of games i like to see! things that … at least try to make a difference in the world, even if you only get one person to see the world a little differently, its something

hmm patreon? … guess i know nothing about fundraising, but i didnt know that was a thing for a video game lol, good luck man! itd be really awesome if you can get it really nicely funded!

Yes, I already considered those options. I don’t have a game developer background, but I have the game mechanisms in mind. I am learning by experience on how to make them straight forward and engaging.

I started Patreon first because it works as a proof of concept too. If I am able to raise some money, that will validate the quality of my game. That along with an engaged community could help me make my case to seek external funding.

Thanks for your input.
