What does per Wii title mean?

When it says $30,000 per Wii title what does that mean exactly? I’m assuming that means if you make 3 different games it’ll cost you 90 grand, 30 per title period. Or does that mean 30 grand for each game you sell from the store? Just want to confirm this. Sorry if I’m being stupid but just want to make sure. Thanks.

For starters, if you ever have questions like this you can always write our sales team at sales@unity3d.com. But I certainly don’t mind you posting here so I can answer your question and do so in front of others so they can benefit as well.

“Per title” means exactly that, you have to pay the engine licensing fee per title, or per game, that you create. So for each unique game you undertake you must pay that licensing fee. Until recently that’s been your only option, you had to pay $15k for a WiiWare title, or $30k for a retail (boxed product on the shelf) title, and you paid that even if you never got through to publishing (so even just to prototype a game you had to pay it, ugh). What we’re now starting to introduce is the notion of a prototyping license that’s closer to the $5k price point. You will still need to be an authorized Nintendo developer with a dev kit, but at least the price to access our tools and prototype your game is much lower. Then if you do move along and think you’re going to release you get that $5k as credit towards a full WiiWare/retail license (the prices above).

Again, this whole prototyping thing is just being crafted which is why it’s not yet listed on our site, but we are working with folks on a case by case basis for now so drop a line to our sales team (again, sales@unity3d.com) if you want to ask for more info on that prototyping option.
