What does Sync to VBL mean?

This sort of ties into my initial question.
This setting is located in Edit > Project Settings > Quality
I have heard it syncs the frame rate to the moniters refresh rate. What does that mean? What is the advantage to that?

So how does this tie into Unity, and because i made a fairly simple game, and have a very powerful computer, does it mean that if this setting was off, it would overwork the graphics card by making it render too fast?

If u enable it you should get smoother gameplay at the cost of framerate. That is if you are using a TFT.
