Hi there! Just wondering how many people are making traditional games from non-traditional (non)games (and what is popular and what is not; it might seem stats we already kind of know but it is interesting to find out what devs are making, and to hear it from them directly by this question/poll. By knowing these revelatory stats/infos, we can then make a better decision about the/our future game making/an idea of game genre next).Thank you.
Yor poll is mostly focusing about RPG/MMO.
Are you aware about other genres that exists?
It is rather poor poll design.
I really cant find any category my game would fit in there. As said above the poll is not very good.
Also, what do you mean by scroller?
You canāt base anything off of this poll and expect to be successful because of it.
Dear Antypodish, JoNax97 and Ryiah, thank you for that. Disclaimer: Is not scientific, just to see what comes up.
I tried to add more game genres but polls are limited to 10 selectable choice/answers maximum, thus I could not add more genres. The last choice I put as Other/every other genre (not on list) would be for this one. It is not representative and is not meant to be accurate in any way; it just an unscientific question/poll, and seeing what would come out of it. I think the results will be not very representative/skewed because only few people casted their vote this far; we only know from the little amount that casted theirs/small unrepresentative sample; not representative of the whole/entire base - if they all voted, we would start to see a bigger/preciser picture (I understand it could be much more precise/accurateā¦but only 10 choices limit in poll. Unity did this to limit the number of choices/not make Ultra-Giant polls with an infinite number of choice answers). Scroller is game that (its image/level graphics) āscrollā/moves along the axis, oftenly from the right to the left; so kind of like a paper scroll that is unscrolling as you read it (to the) right/ward; as your character advances, it āscrollsā the background/you progress in the level (like pixel art games you see such as metroid/castlevania/sonic/mario/ Dead Cells/Limbo/Ori&BlindForest/Braid/Cuphead). Scroller can be 2d (no depth), 2.5d (parallax/pseudo depth by juxstaposed 2d layers in z-axis) or true 3D. The camera is āstiff/lockedā as it āpansā (camera panning towards the right/in some scrollers, sometimes there is āpixel zoomingā to create depth). The principle (of level scrolling along axis-es) remains. If donāt see the choice genre of your game (I apologize), put Other. I meant that we might sort of āmake an (sort of) ideaā of what could be interesting to make as a game (later), I mean, this poll is not intent of changing (peopleās intent) but rather to just see what others are doing (and you can completely disregard it/it can mean nothing to you (because is not accurate/valueable in that sense), itās not meant to be scientific, 100%credible/the truth or anything; was just to throw this out there ālike thatā, take what you will of it; itās āmild) illustrative purposes/a poll for funā kind of). I am surprised there has been no real poll done about that, albeit the 10 choice limit is one reason why; Unity could make one that has as many choices that people could think of (but Unity already, I believe, knows what games overall people are making (so no need to/they already are tailoring things to us/); but not all devs do).
PS: If someone wants to remake this poll - with more detail, or finds a way to add more genres (than 10 ones), Iām all for it.
Me and my team are working on a fighting game :
https://twitter.com/arcforged?lang=fr
Me, personnally on a platformer, action platformer but its not made with unity
Malaika princess the game (not final title )
African and heroic fantasy set and you the player as Chinue (my forum avatar ) fighting giants (Omirokan ) from her own country (Light empire )
The battle concept is particular but i think you can figure out especially if you know that your job here in the video is to mostly defend the giant protector statue in the right corner from the constant attacks from the Boss in the left.
I tried to make this game on Unity but it failed, coders couldnt figure out how to create a 2d fast visual action platformer game but it wasnt entirely their fault of course, i take mostly blame for this so i went back to stencylworks to create this
But right now iāll focus on arcforged next fighting game.
I have also other games in works but i work on them when i can
Dear lenneth4, thank you for that. Incredible. Wishing you lots of luck on your games.
The only thing that prevents my game from going under the āAdventure/non-rpgā option is that the camera scrolls. I donāt really understand the reason behind differentiating between āscrollerā and ānon-scrollerā games.
Hi Bob! Thank you for that. If you feel it is 2 things at the same time, which is do you feel it leans more to (is your game, leaning more, to a adventure/non-rpg or do you feel the scrolling element is really more what defines it; and if last is so thus, the game you feel Leans more towards that; I apologize that because of only 10 choices it forces to choose something that might not totally represent the genre of the game; I think if you feel they really are Both or many other ones in that last at the same timeā¦then, Other could possibly be an answer/I would like to give āchoices possibility above 10āā¦but It was not available. Albeit, multiple choices was available and I admit I decided to not put it; because I felt that the poll could become too skewed by people selecting 5 things that represnt their game/thus it woudl muddy the results; by forcing things al ittle bit more, people choose the choice they feel the game represents the most - to them; so that is more accurate in that sense (according to them, someone else might say different, but that dev feels the game is that genre); because if I were to ask them - in one word quick (coming to their mind)- what is their gameā¦that would be the correct 1 answer (because games are mostly a variety/mix of genres/there is no 100% genre, like a game might borrow a little bit from another genreā¦but people will call this game in the genre they really feel it falls in (even if the game has some elements of other genres; itās the ālarge umbrella āoverallā term/main genre descriptionā for your game (even if it has 2ndary elements from others genres)).
Me, Iām working on a small 3d adventure game with some platforming in it. Think of Super Mario 3d World and Rayman 2. And Iām working on a side scrolling 2d style adventure game too.
