What if I stink at scripting and coding?

What if I stink at scripting and coding,is there an alternative?I’m a teenager and a novice at Unity3d, Scipting, Coding and/or anything that has to do with that stuff.I really do want to make a game so can anyone help me out here.Or is there any website with codes I can borrow?

The only software that I know of that requires no coding is Game Maker 8 (yoyo games) It’s 2D but it can do 3D (requires coding) Its amazingly good and so cheap (about $25)

It’s a great way to start, and there is also a simplfied version of the C language you can use if you want to. When you’re more confident and knowlegable, come back to Unity.

It depend on your motivation and your free time. If you work enough hard, you can learn Unity bases in one month. Another month will help you to be more confident. With those bases, you are able to accomplish something.

You are thinking about making a game but making a game alone is pretty hard and long. In addition, you don’t have any experience in modeling, scripting, and designing, so you won’t be able to reach a medium level of quality.

Think twice about your motivation before trying to seriously learn something, else you won’t never…do anything.

Probably the only real alternative would be a game authoring tool such as the aforementioned Game Maker.

With Game Maker, you create entity behaviors via a fairly user-friendly GUI. It’s fairly limited compared to something like Unity, but it’s certainly possible to make games with it. Also, the ‘behavior scripting’ that Game Maker offers will introduce you to some basic programming concepts, and could possibly serve as a springboard to ‘real’ scripting.

Forget about that. Stitching together other people’s code is not an effective way to make a game, and you’re unlikely to produce anything of interest that way.

Unfortunately, there really aren’t any shortcuts to making a good game, so you’ll just have to dive in and start learning the necessary skills. (Again, Game Maker would probably be a good place to start. Or, you could stick with Unity and just start learning how to program.)

What kind of game are you wanting to make? You should start with something very very simple and learn by “doing”. Actually “doing” it is the only way you’ll learn. Its like learning to ride a bike.

the best trick i would give you is searching for the scripts that would be used for your game first … then study them … i managed to customized my scripts based on others … i guess its the easiest way …

tutorials on the site is excellent to start with … especially the lerpz one !

If you’re a teenager, you have a brain like a sponge and plenty of time to learn. Take a programming class and/or read some programming books.

Learn, so you don’t stink any more. Might as well do it now, before you get old and decide you’re set in your ways and don’t want to learn anything new.

Just in case you dont want to learn to code then you have the option of collaboration. in that case the best thing to do is come up with a concept document and brief design document so you know where your goals and requirements are and then advertise for paid or unpaid scripters wanted. most people will be willing to contribute for credit for their work or a share in sales if its a comercial project. I’d be interested in contributing a few scripts in my spare time as it’s all an oportunity to learn and practice. So PM me if you need any help.

I think that might be a little optimistic  But, collaboration is certainly one way to go.

@The OP: If you want to go the collaborative route, you’ll be in a better position to attract coders if you can contribute something substantial yourself to the project (such as 2-d or 3-d art).
