Hello, Ive been using unity and getting better at it, and wanted to start to make my own small game for android since its free to do so now.
I don’t have an android phone at the moment but my birthday is coming up and Im going to get one then.
Ive had a look and it seems the Samsung galaxy’s are a good choice, but I was wondering if there was a better option which was good for testing out my games on.
Im looking for a fairy cheap phone
Also is there any good books on android development that people would recommend?
Almost any android is supported by Unity, watch out for “arm v6 processor” powered smarphones because AFAIK since unity 4.x they are not supported. I can suggest You http://commonsware.com/Android/ but I don’t understand why you want book about android while using Unity. And keep in your mind that book I gave You link to is divided in to few parts.
I have an I phone 3GS at the moment, but I like how android is open source, and I may be wrong but I think you need a mac to put games on the app store.
I could get an android tablet instead of an android phone, which is recommended for creating games for? or doesn’t it make much difference?
I just want to learn more about creating games for smart phones, like the texture and model poly count limitations, and how to properly optimize code. I do 3D mainly.
I must warn You that poly and model limitations depends on specific harware for example my 2 years old xperia have a bad times with high poly but Galaxy S3 would handle much more.
You should think about sharing your project via dropbox rather than youtube. For example like that:
You can always make settings in game to change graphics precision. But you have to remember that android have variety phones models and avriety of resolutions.
