if for some reason picture is not loading, please just go to google and type ADRIFT
like shown in the picture, notice the boundary around the picture which is clearly showing that our head is inside the helmet (ignore the HUD right now), I want to know how to do this in unity first-person game, i
the first and only approach I thought is to simply import helmet mesh in unity and drag and fit it in front of camera such that I get this view but problem is, I need to make helmet - mesh size a lot bigger than player so that it comes into view, I don’t want to change FOV and hence I think this approach is not best
if there is any other better approach to do this, can you please help me?
Not tested but one approach could be to use a second camera which only displays the helmet & hud like UFPS does with the weapon camera. That way you can change the FOV on the helmet camera without impacting the main camera. I believe theres a shader alternative to using a second camera where you would normally use a weapon camera but I’ve not looked in to it.
If a second camera is not an option (VR?) then another possible approach could be to fake it as a GUI and use something like Curved UI from the asset store. I don’t own the asset so I cant say for sure it would be suitable but if I was looking for a helmet solution then I’d do more investigation in to this.
the approach worked for me , what i did was to set my helmet mesh in a layer and anything in that layer will not be reflected or cast its shadow in environment, plus i played a bit with camera clipping and it now seems fine
