So i’ve asked a few questions onto the answers section of this forum and they just disappear? I’m sure there are reasons but atleast notify me or something.
If you are a new Answers user, with less than 15 karma points, your questions go into a moderation queue. One of the users with karma above 1000 will approve or reject your questions. Once you’re questions have been up-voted by other users you’ll get increasing karma point. (We have 15 as a limit just to avoid spammers from getting questions onto the site.)
Note if your questions are rejected by a community member you should get a comment that explains why.
The only published question from you I could find this this one:
It’s been closed as a duplicate…
I can see a new question submitted from you 3 hours ago. Do you consider questions that need moderation should be moderated faster than 3 hours? There’s currently nearly 100 questions needing moderation. It can take up to 24 hours.
Make some worthwhile contributions to get over the karma threshold so you don’t have to be approved by a moderator. This makes Answers significantly more usable if you plan to be a regular. Otherwise, you simply have to wait.
The catch here is that new users don’t have the experience to make “worthwhile contributions”, but still need to be able to ask for help. I understand the reason behind this system, but I also understand why newbies find it utterly frustrating.
I know this sounds crazy, just putting it out there for discussion: what about an optional paid system? Say, $10 to start an account that has no karma restriction on asking questions?
It sucks insofar as the likely response of the Internet being asked to pay for something is likely to be outrage. Especially so, since they’re paying to ask the question, not to get answers, and answers can’t be guaranteed. But at least it’d open up an avenue for newbies to avoid the above situation, which seems to get posted every week or two. As a plus, the funds that might raise could potentially be put into helping clear out the backlog more quickly?
We’re making changes to Answers… won’t announce the details right now… but there will be ways for new users to get their questions asked and moderated immediately.
I just hope it won’t be premium answers now.
Anyways I don’t use answers so it won’t matter me
