What looks better?

Here are two images of Utopia, only i need to know if it looks better with fog or without, better said: wich one looks scarier?

ignore the floating screw driver btw lol

I’d say the darker one, just light up the rest of the scene- the pic were hard to see and my monitor is BRIGHT.

ok thanks

Must be because Iam on a PC or something but both pictures are virtually black for me, cant make anything out apart from a few white squares. Is this a difference between Macs and PC gamma settings or is it meant to be very dark?

It’s definitely not a Mac/PC thing. The pictures are just really dark.

I think both are too dark, really.

But of the two, the left (brighter) one is best. I can only really see the white of the checkered floor in the second image - that’s not scary, that’s just annoying :stuck_out_tongue:

The brighter one on the left. Unless you want to force someone to use a flashlight or you’re making a glaucoma (Google it) simulator.

one on the right, makes the flashlight a must, amnesia was dark as hell, look how brilliantly scary it was :3

I say the darker one on the right.

The darker one because it has more contrast, but you need to brighten it up a lot in general.

Dark doesn’t have to be dark. Both look pretty bad, and very uninteresting. Dark becomes interesting if there is also light, then you have something to compare them with and feel fear. So perhaps a hole in the wall is letting sun or moonlight through and so on.

This is a good idea.

+1

no becouse iys a underground facility, but i quess maybe a light here and there couldnt be bad, and also, you use a flashlight for the people who where wondering

They look pretty much the same to me… black. One is slightly lighter shade of black.

ok so how about this? its still a bit dark but i get the feeling that if i add to much light that it ruins the experiance, but yeah… if you dont like pls tell me becouse i need to know

I don’t like it, the mysterious invisible light source is never going to work. A deep underground facility with just a torch isn’t actually a fun idea. It’s an unfair-hard-to-see idea if you just have a torch. It would get annoying fast and everything would look the same.

Some ideas for light sources:

  • cracks in shafts leading to the surface spilling light down
  • old furnace still in use
  • candles from whatever else is alive down there
  • the player turns on old generators so you can have flickering and low power bulbs and valves and stuff going

If there is no light there is no dark, having the two play off each other is a fundamental point of design.

thats…not bad thanks for the idea

I really like hippocoder’s ideas.
